How does this work? If his dad doesn't report the income that he was paid, he's commiting tax evasion. However, if he does report it, there is a paper trail that causes trouble for both him and the university.

This is getting ridiculous.

report the income that he was paid

Where is the proof he was paid anything? Not speculation, verifiable proof.

This is turning into a soap opera.

ETA: Not a personal shot at you but every angle has been covered.

I can't wait for these threads to stop.

I'm not implying that the Smarts received any money, but gift recipients are not responsible for paying taxes on the cash they received.

No.

I'm so tired of all these different scenarios.

There is no verifiable proof of any wrong doings. None.

If you want to go with the "but what if," then that's all you. Again, I mean no disrespect whatsoever but this is getting a little much.

I can't wait for this story to just end.

It’s not that difficult Bama hides the Dodge Chargers without a paper trail no problem.

It doesn't help when Scott Rabalais writes in his article that Javonte Smart was mentioned by name. Javonte's name was never mentioned. Only the word smart was used which doesn't mean it was Javonte. I really hope Wade was telling the truth and being honest when he said this doesn't begin to tell the full story and wait until the full story comes out before judging. I want to believe all will be ok. Maybe lose a scholarship or 2, but not all the forfeiture of games and championships and post season ban. And I definitely want Wade back.

Wade was recruiting another player named Smart that Dawkins has ties to? What a coincidence! If not our Smart who was Wade talking about on the FBI wiretap of Dawkins?

Hypothetically if I wanted to transfer money with it being traceable I think I would do it in small amounts on gift cards.

Yes. You have to report ALL income. Even if you find a nickel on the street and pick it up you owe taxes on it.

Okay so we’ve established that there is nothing verifiable about Smart doing it, but everyone else does it. Got it. So how does everyone else do it? I see OP’s point.

Wrong. There are limits to gifts before they become taxable.

ETA: recipient, you may right, but if it’s not filed correctly it could still be a problem. Awards, like gift cards that employers often give out, are taxable.

If it’s over a certain amount, then yes they are responsible for paying taxes on it.
