He was on Rantz's show for about an hour last nite, and he covered a wide variety of subjects, one of which was the new ball coming into use next yr. In response to Rantz's question about its possible effects on the game, Skip just shrugged his shoulders and said "Meh". Implication being he doesn't see much change coming. He completely blames the bats & does not see any changes coming anytime soon. He commented that UCLA winning the CWS with a .250 BA was "bad for college baseball" and that the NCAA HAS to bring in the fences in Omaha: adding that when a college left fielder is playing only a few yards behind the short stop, i.e. that shallow, that tells you something is wrong with the game. He said Nola is the best "pitcher" he's seen in his days at LSU & that he would be successful, i.e. make the big leagues, regardless of the era."Bregman is a Russ Johhnson clone"; "Buggs can be something special"; "Dunn is by far the best colllege pitching coach he's ever seen." Skip is getting old but he still knows his baseball, especially the technical aspects of it.

In other news, Dan Caniveri just killed himself and his family.

Good info. Thanks.

Regarding TD Ameritrade Stadium in Omaha, I know I won't go back to the CWS unless they make changes. It's painful watching a game there now.

It's worse than attending a women's basketball game.

Skip is almost always right when he comments on baseball, but he is wrong here. The research is clear; the ball change will help lofted balls carry better. LSU would have hit three or four homers and won in a laugher against UCLA in Omaha with the flat-seam ball.

The ball will make a big difference, still won't be gorilla ball but more homers will be hit. I watched a college team take BP with the MLB ball and the BBCor bats and they hit balls out pretty regularly, second round they used todays college ball and nothing was leaving the yard.

It's really sad that the first person I thought of when I saw the name Skip was Skip Bayless. Luckily it didn't take long to figure out the actual Skip.

I agree with him that the new baseballs will make a small difference but it won't be very drastic.

the bats should have never been changed after 09. They were perfect at that point. College Baseball is such a bore now thanks to this.

Also a pitcher lobbing an 86MPH fastball dead over the heart of the plate, and having a guy crush it. Then you watch the ball die in the mid outfield. There is no punishment to pitchers/reward to hitters. You are better off taking walks, bunting and waiting for errors. That's not baseball.

It won't be drastic (back to gorilla ball) but it will be significant. The game will be played like pro ball, thus more fair and watchable.

The ball will carry better, providing more extra base hits and homers. Outfielders will have to play deeper, providing more base hits to drop safely in the outfield.

I understand that but I just think some people are expecting teams to start hitting 70-80 homers again and I doubt that happens

College baseball is supposed to be offensive minded and exciting. It is not anymore.

I am very disappoint. And my student section days are during these trying times
