It's a bit unreasonable to ask ANY pitcher to have a sub 2.00 ERA for his entire career. Ebb and flow. Wax and wane. Strikes and gutters.

I saw a stat that if the pirates put up the league average run support, he would have only lost 3 games.

Moral of the story, it ain’t skenes that sucks

It’s not just his ERA. His velocity and spin rate are down significantly and have continued to dip

Compared to his first two seasons, yeah he does. Wins and losses don't mean much for how well pitchers are potching. His velocity is down a good bit, command has been average at best and his numbers prove it.

He's had a bad year but he's also not pitched for two full years yet and started multiple all star games and won a cy young

Give him a little time

He just needs to fix his mechanics. He's lost velocity on his fastball and he changed his release point and it's coming at the batter in a straight, more flat trajectory making it easier for the batter to track it and tee off on it. He's also having control issues (by Skene standards) and falling behind in the pitch count more often. At least that's what ChatGPT tells me.

Through 6 complete, gave up 2 runs. Team up 7-2. Quality start tonight.

Skenes over his last 10 games has over a 5 ERA. Averaging the league average isn't helping much

Yea, it's really tough as a pitcher when every game you're desperately trying to keep the score below 2 runs.

I mean he isn't helping the cause
Last 10 starts:
5.09 ERA
5IP or less in 5 of those starts
Give up 30 runs during this time

The pirates are 3rd in runs scored per game at 5.29

1 Washington 5.38
2 LA Dodgers 5.31
3 Pittsburgh 5.29
