Silly question, is there a record for a ratio of K’s per inning?

Nothing that I have seen that is in record books. But Skenes K per inning is 1.8, which calculates to 16.2 per 9 innings, which is a record keeping stat. That record is 16.8. Skenes was beating that most of the year, but it appears to be out of reach at this point, unless he starts recording 16 or more Ks per outing in his next 2 starts. Then he might be able to make it close in his final start (this is all assuming 2 starts in Omaha).

And a new intimidator. And I have all 6 sadvocate national championship posters autographed, matted, and framed. I will have to get the 7th, signed by Skenes and Crews obviously.

The most likely scenario is that he gets two more starts. In that case he would have to get 15 average. Almost no chance of that. So he needs three starts. If he gets three he almost certainly breaks it. It boils down to what are his chances to get three starts.

We have about a 65% chance of winning the Super Regional, imo. Then about a 35% chance of advancing from the four team bracket in Omaha. Multiply .35 times .65, then multiply the answer by about 0.9, because there might be a 10% chance Skenes gets three starts and does not get 31Ks. My estimate is 20.475%

I think the odds on LSU winning it all are 1 in 5, which is twice as good as I’m implying above. So maybe Skenes has a 40% chance.

Skenes will need 3 starts to get the 24 k's, I think.... unless he gets on a roll and has a 14-15 strikeout game.

I hope he breaks the record. He's definately the type of generational/ memorable player that is deserving of it.

Let's hope he breaks the record in the Championship series in Omaha.

Actually, he only needs 24 to break record (203-179)so 12 per game, not 15. 12 per game is totally doable for him.

He’s only needs 24 more. He can do that in 2 games, if LSU can make it to Omaha.

He can do it in 2 games with 12 K’s per game. He has more games with at least 12K’s than with less than 12K’s.

He threw 13 K’s the last time he faced Kentucky

If Skenes gets his average number of strikeouts and pitches 7 innings per game, it is unlikely Ben keeps the record if LSU makes it out of the super regional and particularly if they win it all.

So I hope Ben does not keep it.

So you would rather Ben keep the strikeout record than LSU win a 7th national championship? Are you kin to Ben or something? Hell, even Ben said he hopes he breaks it.

Uh, do you not understand baseball? We can win with putouts as well as strikeouts.

Apparently I understand it better than you. Baseball is a game of numbers and statistics. Skenes is striking out more then 11 per outing, and that includes his outliers. You think that is all of sudden going to change? Could it happen? Yes. But it is more likely that if Skenes doesn't break Ben's record it will be because he doesn't get a 3rd start because we bow out early in Omaha, not because we win it all and Skenes suddenly starts pitching to contact.

Point being it’s not impossible for both to happen. Ben keep and us win it all.

Yes, it's possible. Not likely, but possible.

That’s all I was saying man. I thought this was like a “hope” thread. I certainly meant nothing negative to come from it.
