I remember being a kid at the USC game and my sister was a cheerleader, we had Box seats. It was literally a lifted deck of wood with four rails and 4 metal folding chairs head high on the West side 20yd. I will never forget to this day and crying all the home when Heisman winner Charles White scored. I was right there on the fence when he slid into it and hit him on the shoulder pads. Back then kids could actually run the sidewalk up and down behind the team and the Managers would throw the Tear-away jerseys to us. Oh the memories are some of the fondest of my entire life

First ever game in T.S, 10 yrs old, Cannon's TD run against the Rebs. Dad made over 100 calls finding 2 tickets for Mom & I. He already had his. First row, South End Zone upper deck, dead between the goal posts, Cannon ran away from us. But then the game winning goal line stand, 4 tries from the one, was right in front of us. Season tickets the next yr.

Yes There were a lot of dorm rooms under the stadium. That is how Huey Long got the funding for the stadium. He got funding for a much needed dormitory and left a football field sized space between the two wings.

I remember looking out of my north stadium dorm room window watching Mike the Tiger run wild after some Tulane students had set him free.

Games did start at 8:00pm then later changed to 7:30pm. Listening to John Ferguson on radio on Saturday nights. All this changed later when TV of games exploded.

Grantland Rice Bowl

If memory is correct, it was part of D-2 playoffs. I remember seeing Delaware and UNLV play in 1974. I was 12 and pulled for Delaware because their uniforms looked like Michigan.

My first game to attend was going to be LSU/Ole Piss game in 1959. I was 9 years old. The owner of the pharmacy in town wanted my ticket. My dad told him he had to make a deal with me. The deal was I was allowed to read daily all of the comic books I wanted without being hassled and I got one of those Brown's Velvet ice cream cups with the wood spoon for free. The deal lasted for one year. At 9 years old, I thought I did pretty good.

Man I remember back to about 64/65'. My grandmother had box seats, which everyone thought were cool, but you couldn't see shite from about the 25 on towards the NEZ. I remember Mike coming around and cheerleaders on top and him making noise. Gov. McKeithen coming around shaking hands. I don't remember the fence being there.

We drove in from L.C. , and always had a stuffed Tiger in the rear window to the car. We used to eat at the cafeteria on campus. On the way home we would stop in Laffy or Crowley to get a truck stop burger. Dammit those were good times. Our seats were folding chairs. 6 people to a box.

I remember when going to the concession stands was an enjoyable experience

All they had was those nasty hamburgers and hot dogs , stale popcorn, and soft drinks! But that burger only tasted good inside the stadium….

Don’t forget Big Red. You could hear that guy throughout the entire stadium yelling “Tiger Bait” through his little megaphone.

Boy these responses bring back memories. My first game was with a friend of mine and his parents. His dad was a State Policeman and got tickets from my uncle who worked for the state. Stayed at his apartment somewhere. Was my first-time eating at Burger Chef. Later on, and this is in the mid 60's we would go with my father's brother who had two sets of tickets. One was damn near the 50 yd line about halfway up on the home side. Remember watching the LSU band play not far from us going south I believe. Then his other tickets were in top of the north endzone, where all the boy scout ushers would come to watch the rest of the game. Every time the quarter ended those damn horns would scare the shite out of me. And we always wore slacks and a long sleeve button up shirt, and the adults wore coat and ties and the women dresses. It's changed a little over the years.

They used to have a game designated as Band Night. Bands from area high schools would perform at half. They were all seated in the lower bowl of the south end zone.

I still have my beanie, with the required "DOG [SURNAME] SIR!" written on the inside of the bill. The bill was worn flipped up.

I still have my Dad’s Freshman Athletic Association Student ticket from his Freshman Year, 1954. He has his beanie on. I can attest to the truthfulness of this post. Except, someone (or Dad) spelled Sir, SUR, on his beanie. And yes, the bill is flipped up.

Those student ID ticket pictures looked more like mugshots than they did a student’s college photo

I have seen ticket stubs to the Billy Cannon run game that said October 31, 1959 at 8:00.

I have a program from that game - at least I did until my granddaughter saw it ----> I gave it to her for their new home.

She was there 2005- 2009 - I was there 1956-1960.

Growing up in Kroger Springs (not Melville), I’m sure you owned a pair of white crawfish boots?

There was a few good baseball players in that area.

Sid, and later Dan Borne’, would page people they knew “Dr. John, Doctor Long John, pleas call your medical exchange”. (Working a concession stand with Buckskin Bill had its perks)
