Payton has always been bitter that LSU is more popular than the Saints statewide.

NB4 Saints fans butthurt that those players had the audacity to be drafted by another team.

Statewide, without a doubt

You really think Payton is jealous of LSU's popularity and that's why he won't draft an LSU player??

People in North LA are not nearly the Saints fans as the true Louisianians that hail from the south.
ETA:
But the idea Sean Payton is jealous is fricking ludicrous

I wouldn’t say jealous, bitter is more accurate.
This just in- most football coaches have huge egos.

Yes they do have egos and they'd rather win then prove a point to a college in state. There are other NFL teams that haven't drafted LSU players in many years, this doesn't mean the coaches have something against LSU.

Yes. Definitely statewide. I live in metro New Orleans. I love both teams and actually been a Saints fan longer, but my passion for LSU is greater. One of my uncles (who never went to college) said it best: "the Saints could up and move after the current lease expires; LSU will be there forever."

LSU has been Louisiana's football team since the 1890s and will always be in Louisiana. The Saints are just a business invented in 1967 and owned by a billionaire that is stealing $400 million over 20 years and she could move that team anytime she wants. LSU's players are also mostly from Louisiana, while the Saints players are not and are simply paid mercenaries.

This is a dumbass take

LSU represents the state and has been around for far longer. That's the reason.

Tom Benson had a shitty relationship with LSU - but now that he's gone I was hoping Gayle would be more receptive to take LSU players. I know we should take what we need and best available.. that's not always an LSU guy, but there have been times when it would have been a good pick. Without looking, I'd guess several of those players that Ree listed were available when the Saints picked.

This sums it up perfectly.

Since 2011, 16 NFL teams have drafted 1 or fewer LSU players. 9 have drafted 2, 5 have drafted 3 and 2 have drafted 4. Atlanta - 4, Tamps Bay - 3, Carolina - 2
No point ot this just pure stats. There is no real point because the stats show virtually nothing except possibly need and philosophy.

A few years ago Mike Detillier told me that Payton got butt hurt about a question a local reporter asked about a former LSU player and the lack of playing time he was getting. Ever since then Payton had a preference against having LSU players on the rosters so that he wouldn't have to deal with those kinds of questions.

If you think she has any say so in the drafting process, then I don’t know what to tell you
