Does it make anyone else feel really fricking old that we're reading about Russell Shepard's career after a long NFL career?

I feel like we were celebrating his commitment and future multiple Heisman wins yesterday.

Smart of him. He invested his money and didn’t blow it. He set himself up for life with his hard work.

Everyone always says he’s a jack of all trades, but a master of none. I say he’s a master of working his arse off and finding a way to be successful. Dude never quits

Reminds me of the time I pulled up on one of Randall Cunningham's shops and was cutting rock and getting dirty. These guys get it

Or youre just old and resisting change that makes you feel irrelevant as you fail to keep up. Abbreviations are used more online because the context is less formal. Ever read a teens note in class? It was full of abbreviations before texting or internet.

Its a means of mainstreaming the process of writing, just because you don't know every single abbreviation doesn't mean its logical to close your mind to reason, old timer.

How disgustingly irresponsible do you have to be to earn $70 million before you are even 40 and you have to worry about paying bills. Congrats to Shep for living wisely? You can still live a great life of luxury and also watch spending but too many athletes just spend until it’s gone. Antoine Walker made over $100 million in the NBA and didn’t have a penny to his name 5 years after he retired.

Grow up for 18 years in a family and neighborhood where no one has ever had the money to own or invest in anything. Half the time you don't know if you'll have a place to sleep. The other half you don't know if that place will have utilities.

Then at 19 start getting paid $10M a year. You feel obligated to your people. Everyone you have ever said hi to comes to you for a "loan". Again, you're still 19 at this point. You don't know how to say no. No one you know has ever had money, let alone managed it. There is no one to give you advice, except the predators trying to take advantage of you.

Russ had the benefit of a stable, middle-class, two-parent household. His parents went to college. They worked salary jobs with benefits. They owned their home. He went to fancy, well-funded suburban schools. He had a place to go on breaks.

Compare that to someone like Frank Herron, who literally never wore a first-hand jacket or a pair of sweats that didn't come from Wal-Mart before he got his LSU team-issue gear. Got his Christmas gifts from the Angel Tree program, if he got any at all. Couldn't plan to go home for Christmas, because he wasn't sure where (or if) home would be.

Les Miles gave Russell every chance to be successful and always had Russel's back whenever someone tried to call him a bust.

Russell not being drafted in the NFL after several others who didnt play nearly as much as Russell did, indicates Russell's lack of physical talent.

He didnt do anything great, wasnt the quickest, great hands, top end speed, blocking, route runner, size, etc.

Russell, having the NFL career he had, is a testament to his desire to be successful. Its truly remarkable how long he lasted in the league; especially when you consider the world class athletes he was competing against at WR that were hungry to make a roster as well.

Russell Shepard should have a special place in the LSU folklore as a guy that persevered under difficult circumstances and never gave up on his dream.

Only someone with extreme privilege could possibly save $700,000 out of 70 million. That would literally only be a 1% savings rate but you can only make that kind of sacrifice with muh privilege.

I gave it a skim, nothing I wouldn't know besides the numbers. The particular part on acronyms states to simply be careful when using acronyms as people can mistake what the acronym stands for.

I dont believe people mistook any of the acronyms here. Regardless, we shouldn't hamper development in communication simply because its not perfect. I get the frustration of not knowing one like I only recently figured our IIRC cuz its similar to another acronym and threw me off.

But the widespread use makes it become common knowledge. Just as we learn common words and new slang, we learn new acronyms. Your part is to learn how to communicate effectively using them, and not cause miscommunication. Sorry if I came off harsh in my OP, the complaint bothered me.
