Even as he suited up on Sundays in the NFL, he built a trucking business shortly after his rookie season. By his third year in the league, he made more money via that side venture than his NFL salary.

How disgustingly irresponsible do you have to be to earn $70 million before you are even 40 and you have to worry about paying bills. Congrats to Shep for living wisely? You can still live a great life of luxury and also watch spending but too many athletes just spend until it’s gone. Antoine Walker made over $100 million in the NBA and didn’t have a penny to his name 5 years after he retired.

Smart man and not afraid of hard work=success. Everyone knows he was not used to his full potential with Les, I can imagine big numbers if he had been here with Brady and Joe.

A lot of these guys are literally given everything they could ask for from a young age. I'm not making excuses for grown men, but it's easy to see how some players dont plan for a life after their talent fades. I'm a strong proponent of more financial classes at a young age. Too many kids are raised poor, develop poor habits and spend most of their early adult life trying to break the cycle.

Even though Les might have not used him to his full potential as a player, he helped coach him to his full potential as a man. Les is a better coach off the field than on the field to players.

I think he got that work ethic from his parents and grand parents. Kudos to him for not minding rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty. Heck of a role model to start a business, not just try to rely on your fame or popularity.

Love hearing stories like that. I believe RJF owns quite a few fast food franchises IIRC?

This is an incredible story.

No debt and saved enough to invest in other streams of income, and on top of that, actually grinds it out doing the work himself.

This is what success looks like. Hats off to Shep!

I'm still pissed that Les Miles didn't let RS throw a few passes.

Shepherd did not have the career at LSU that we had hoped, BUT he is the EPITOME of hard work.
