Should not have tagged out the player walking to the dugout

If we do not tag the guy at the dugout and the other runner scores, the other runner is out for passing the guy at the dugout.

correct also he didnt have to tag him because once he steps in dugout he is no longer in playing field and ump will call him out

given that the runner had not touched home, he is technically on third. So, yes, the runner that scored would have passed him and be declared out. I would think that would be a decent argument to make.

The way last night went, Nicholls would have pinch hit a freshmen with 5 ABs who would roll a bleeder between 1st and 2nd to score the run anyway.
We are saving all the good fortune for June.

Can you even imagine a run down between the dugout and home with another runner halfway home from third.
Jay needs to coach them up regarding this scenario.

The lack of coaching and situational awareness last night was apparent. We have been winning on talent, alone…which I ain’t complaining about, but just a fact. You can go a long way with talent and recruiting….

I think you need to have the definition of a fact explained to you.

Fine, explain away

Agreed, but Johnson came running out of the dugout yelling to tag him. At that point you just sit at home and make the umpire make a call.

Jay Johnson = Les Miles
Just kidding.
I will give him a mulligan on that one.

What's missed about that play, that would have short circuited all that crap, was that Collins was not backing up the catcher, rather he was standing off to the first base side, way away from where he was supposed to be. But rather get this kind of dumbass game behind us & not hurt us in conference. Had this happened against bama this weekend or the Black Bears last weekend, the hurt would be felt the rest of the season possibly.

Wrong play. That was on the base hit in the 9th that he didn't backup home. The play OP is talking about was the squeeze bunt back to Collins.

If the catcher would not have chased after the first runner the second runner would have stayed at third base. Then he could have appealed. First runner out. Second runner at third.

I'd rather have bad luck and fluky weird stuff happen on the midweek.
Win the weekend.

Actually, the umpire should have called him out when he committed to the dugout. Just leaving the dirt around the plate. Catcher does not to chase him, runner does not have to go all the way in the dugout. Umpire should have just called him out on the abandonment rule. He abandoned the play. That’s it.

I was screaming at the TV for the pitcher to go stand on home plate with the ball. It would have resolved in our favor no matter what.
