But. Is there really? There aren't really that many big time coaches out there and that would be willing to leave their school for another. Realistically what, 4-6 "big time" coaches?

No, we should hire an offensive minded coach, not a DC

No, this is worse than hiring sun belt Billy. LSU deserves a proven head coach. Nothing against Blake Baker but LSU is better than to be someone's first HC gig.

Hiring an energy DC as first time HC of a team with a shitty offense would not be wise. Aranda is much more suited and he's teetering on the edge of being fired.

Absolutely not.

Think Kirby Smart.

Saban made him DB Coach at LSU.
He was DB Coach at Georgia, then became their Head Coach.
How did that work out?

I don't know if Baker is HC Material but I'm confident Kelly is just a waste of time and money.

Screw that. Any new coach had better have some gray hair and experience running a winning program at a major conference.

This is so dumb. That mentality is what got us Brian Kelly. Meanwhile, Georgia hired 39 year old Kirby smart (no gray hairs) who had never been a head coach before and he's won it all twice. Notre Dame promoted young Marcus Freeman (also no gray hairs) who had never been a HC before and he had them in the NC game year 3.

I do think the “proven coach” idea is a bit overrated. There is value to it, but Kirby, Lanning, Day, Dabo, Lincoln Riley (at OU) all were coordinators and are having/had big time success

After Pavia shredded our “elite defense” like a high school team?

I get that Pavia is really good but we have way too much talent to be embarrassed like that.

Look, Coach O was not a hot prospect when he was hired --- there was no search or assessment by "experts".

If he shows up wth a full binder, he's in.

Dumb take. LSU’s offense is what lost that game leaving at least 3 TDs on the field. The defense did enough to win that game, but it’s hard to contain a really good offense in modern football when your offense goes three and out every series.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Just because there is a smattering of examples doesn’t mean it’s the best plan.

You can survive a car wreck without a seat belt. It has happened.

That doesn’t mean you lead with that as your best plan for safe travels.

Turning the program over to a relative rookie would be reckless and stupid when there are proven candidates who could be had.

You;re gonna get a lot of professors saying “absolutely not” etc. but hell if we would have taken a chance on a co ordinator we would have the same results we got from a proven head coach but we’d be in a position to move on.

It Isssss possible Drinkwitz made Baker look good!! Manny Diaz fired Baker and took over the defense down at Miami for a reason! Look at Mizzou now! New DC is doing fine!

How our current “proven” head coach working for you? If we had some new blood in there at least there might be some hope.

“Proven” apparently is worthless these days. Innovative and motivated is what we need.

We’re soft AF and that starts at the top. If Baker were HC we’d see that change

But just hiring Blake is the wrong decision and its not even up for debate lol.

"It's not even up for debate" because Josh Pate thinks LSU is a top 5 coaching destination and IM_4_LSU said so.

Dude I have never said LSU was a top 5 job. Nor do I even listen to Josh Pate so this is just proving your ignorance lmfao.

How so? Georgia's record the last few years of Richt's tenure is comparable to LSU's previous few years.

Georgia was getting rid of a very successful Coach who couldn't get them over the hump. They had not won a Championship since the 80's. Where we are at is a program that has been down since 2019 never being a championship contender. Georgia was at a better spot than we are at currently. They got rid of a proven successful Head Coach in their program for a younger coach to bring hunger and fire.

I actually do think we need to go younger but going to Blake is laughable.

quote:

But they aren't as far apart as you are suggesting. Blake is 43 and has been a very successful DC in the SEC for 4 years.

Similar in age sure. But they are not even remotely close to the same level. Blake although a good Coordinator has not been an ELITE coordinator except for 1 year in the SEC. As opposed to Kirby's track record.

Again, I am not saying we should go after a proven Head Coach because we are a top program. I am saying you go for the best options because we have not been a top program since 2019. And history shows if we don't hit on the next hire it would set the program further back. There are coordinators out there who could be offered the job with no Head Coaching experience but Blake is not one of them.
