One of the many areas of coaching, IMO, where CLM is very under appreciated is the area discussed in this exact thread. Specifically, either Coach or a member of his staff (like the whole time he's been here |rolls eyes|) seems to have a great feel for what's more productive, late in games, when it comes to either riding a great but possibly tired back or switching to a just a "very good" but fresh back. I for sure didn't appreciate this little CLM coaching nuance. That is, until I saw a McGhee (sp ?), or a Kenny Hilliard or a Ware come bouncing in all fresh in the 4th quarter and run either around or through someone. Yet, when he sees a Fournette or a Hill, he's also flexible enough to scrap that mentality. Seems that very few other coaches use this RB by committee thing Miles does.

Good example of your statement is ole miss game 2014..... Kenny Hilliard came in fresh and wrecked havoc in that game winning drive. Hilliard/Fournette took advantage of that worn down d line and we drove down the field with all running plays.... 12 running and 1 pass play I believe. Fresh backs ALWAYS makes a difference

I'm willing to bet it's going to look like this:

Fournette - 55%
Guice - 25%
Williams - 15%
Broussette - 5%

I'd be surprised if Fournette averaged 25 carries a game.

Lsu has enough talent to share carries, fournette is to valuable. Marcus Lattimore was ran in the ground by Spurrier and had major injuries bc of it, and chubb last yr was ran hard by uga.

In SEC play, I agree with this.

Miles and company recruit RB's well, then go to this maddening procedure of subbing with no rhyme or reason, and sitting the hot hand's arse on the bench.

That being said, no, you don't want to overuse LF. Let him relax a lot during blowouts with the cupcakes.

But the old country boy's saying is true, "When you've got a good horse ... you ride him."

He should get 25 touches a game, and as long as we're in control of the game he'll share with all of our other really good RB's.

Fournette-20 touches

Others 10-15 touches

Incoming freshman-redshirt

QB's pass 20-25 times

Total plays 60 with it being 59% run and 41% pass.

I would be surprised too. We can afford to let Fournette rest because of the other talents at RB. I think we see something closer to 20 carries per game.

I honestly think the Anthiny Jennings situation will have an impact on this. If Jennings doesn't come back early in the year, the staff will have to be terrified about not having a backup QB. That means less runs for Harris and more carries for the tailbacks.

Marcus Lattimore wasn't built to take that many carries. Look at his legs compared to his upper body. Also, those were freak accidents. That was not normal wear and tear.

So you want Miles to redshirt Guice and Brossette? No way that happens.

Hilliard getting hurt in the first series of the Bama game last year is THE reason we lost. He couldn't come in in the 4th and put them to bed like Wisconsin and Ole Miss, and for the life of me I don't know why he was in so early. It's why you saw Williams more than you would expect in the Bama game, and I think Williams becomes that 4th quarter guy this year.
10 minutes left in the game, we need to eat clock, and LF has had 25 carries already, give DW the ball with fresh legs to grind it out.

Let's also not forget that LF is returning kicks too. Between that, getting between 20 and 25 carries in SEC games, and a couple receptions, he'll be utilized plenty to help us win games and get enough attention to possibly go to New York for the Heisman ceremonies.

I still can't figure out what Mark Ingram's deal is.

Ingram ran behind a great O line. Good back but that line was very good.

Fournette is good with at least 15 to 20 carries

We have plenty of good backs to change pace and extend Fournette's career. Guise will be a big huge surprise back and he can carry 5 to 10 times, Williams 5 to 10 times and we have Brosette then throw in Donte.

No need to over work a back on this team.

I agree here... BUT You have a horse in LF and Miles should use him like 25 touces a game.. The backfield is super deep this year and the way Miles coaches LF won't get to 25 maybe once this season...

See, I don't think 25 carries is needed on average, but I wouldn't push away 20 carries per. That's 260 carries in a 13 game season and at, let's say 6.5 ypc average, that's nearly 1700 yards. If we take him off of returns, but include him more in the passing game, the offense could really take off with him as the catalyst.

Using Harris as a real option threat could really open up the run game. We could also throw passes out of that read option like they practiced with him last year. Then Harris has the arm to hit the perimeter from either side of the field, 20+ yards downfield. This offense could be REALLY explosive, if they open it up.
