Does the coach have to transfer credits or is this discussion about athletes and not an educational institution providing said education?

A lot of this year (not all of it) is because of coaching changes. I’ve seen it happen a lot in all sports. A kid is recruited because he’s big and can run between the tackles. New coach has no use for that. Another kid is recruited because he’s a slugger and the new coach wants to play small ball. Look, I think the current state of the portal is a really bad look and there are many taking advantage of that but I can see it’s benefits as well.

Ok so why don't coaches have to honor their contracts then?

Tough one to go back on. Let’s just play the game better than others.

Best answer I've gotten so far is "apples/oranges!". Good luck

100% should. There needs to be something to balance out these transfers.

Do other students not transfer schools?

The fact that you know about transferring credits tells you that it education isn’t the hurdle you want to pretend it is.

Coaches usually have buy-out clauses in their contracts. If thry don't honor their contract, it costs them in...or the school hiring them.

Pennies on the dollar.

The buyout clause has never cost the coach a year of his career.

They should probably think about doing something. This escalated quickly. Seems like they didn't really think all this through. I mean, what in the literal hell is going on here? I'm usually not one to sit up on a high horse clutching my pearls and screaming get off my lawn but good god on a golf cart, this is a circus.

The Portal will not exist in it's current state within 2-3 years, neither NIL. This thing has to be reeled back in.

Seems like this shite is getting out of hand. Maybe the realization of sitting a year out will make these kids more loyal.

Yes, give them unlimited transfers but make them sit a season between transfers. I would allow them to keep the immediate eligibility for grad transfers though on a one time basis.
They dont have the patience to sit that long and other teams would not be as inclined to poach other teams players.

NCAA did not create NIL. The courts did...

Would you want your kid to have a second chance somewhere else?

With the new dynamic of NIL payments, the option to transfer and play immediately (i.e., take the money and run) distorts the system.

If a player has to sit out one season, he might think twice about reneging on his original commitment.

Coaches can leave whenever they want, sure, but in most cases there are buyouts involved.
And what are we talking about, really, when comparing the coach-vs-player situations? We're talking about a small number of head coaches and a handful of coordinators who actually leave each season. Whereas with the players, we've had dozens and dozens of them enter the transfer portal.

The transfer rules were working just fine when graduates were allowed to play without sitting out.

We need the one-year rule to be reinstated.
If nothing else, make it so that transfer players have to be on-track academically (grades and hours passed) to transfer without sitting out.

I have always thought they should sit out a year and lose that year. Stay where they sign
