Nothing overrated about his raw talent. If he doesn’t pan out it won’t be because of a lack of physical ability.

Give him time. He's definitely in the mold of previous successful LSU WRs. I would hate if he transfered. He has a chance to be a starter in 2025 when we lose Lacy, Hilton, and Daniels.

Jarvis was that dude his true freshman year, you could see it in limited action he was in. If I render right there was talks of him being able to play defense if he wanted to

Go back and watch Jarvis on special teams back then. He was definitely giving 100% no matter where he was at on the field.

It's called paying dues and Sampson isn't ready...just because he was a 5 star don't mean shite. It takes a while for some regardless of star power. He will either play his jr season or simply move on to another school and aint nothing wrong with that

Wrong….jarvis was blasting dudes on STs so u knew he was a player.
Also name one play he had on special teams except for the hit vs Auburn. Literally one

When you drop catchable balls as a Freshmsn, you get passed up fast. Hopefully he can get his grove back.. to be fair, he has broken multiple fingers over the years while playing at Catholic.

I know he is only a sophomore
As in he was a freshman last year.

My recollection from watching him when he played was:
1. He dropped passes the should've been caught.
2. He didn't seem to be going full speed all the time.
3. He didn't block.
Obviously a WR must catch the football, but I. think the current LSU offense also puts a priority on blocking.

Someone said it, he's just a kid. He has had to adjust to college and mature both physically and mentally. Shelton Sampson will be fine. It's the mental and physical growing pains.

Hopefully he is a BTJ type that is quiet his first 2 years and then grows into his potential.
Really hoping this is the case.

As of yet Shelton is not close to that level. IMO Shelton need more weight and strength. If Shelton gains a little more weight and strength his ceiling is about has high as Terrace Marshall.
Imo it's not his weight and strength that isn't getting him on the field
It's all the other stuff, like knowing the entire playbook anf where to be. Catching the ball. Running the correct routes.

Jarvis was 5'11" and not super athletic (for an NFL WR, not a human being). He had different traits that he had to use to make successful. He had to be really physical, run really good routes, and catch everything thrown near him. He was able to do that, was an all-time LSU WR, and had a really nice NFL career, though probably a little shorter than he would have preferred (his lack of elite athleticism couldn't withstand the injuries).
But those traits he had translated to college earlier than Sampson's. Sampson is not built to be a gunner on kick off and punt teams. And he has to grow into his body and add muscle and strength. His biggest issue--according to Kelly--is not being strong enough to be physical enough off the LOS. He gets knocked off his routes too easily. Or he did. Hopefully he's put on some good weight and he still has a month and a half to keep adding before camp. I don't know how anything about his route running, but I'd have to imagine with another year with Hankton, he's improved that significantly.
The drops don't bother me at all. Way too small a sample size to take anything away from them. He's a 5-star WR who finally is getting a little PT last year, and I'm sure he put a ton of pressure on himself to make plays because he just didn't have many opportunities. So he "tried too hard" instead of just playing in the flow of the offense. Happens with younger players.
But comparing him to Jarvis is just terribly unfair. Jarvis was basically who he always was as soon as he stepped on campus. Sampson had/has a lot more room to develop. I hope he gets enough run to stick around for next year. Because we're losing a lot and he could wind up being our #1 in '25. But he's gonna have to fight his arse off for reps this year. I hope he does. I was worried about him hitting the portal after spring. The fact that he didn't says a lot, I think.

He needs to put in the work and then he’ll play. I also think like others on the rant that he will step up this year.
