Ultimately, no incentive.
When you’re guaranteed something I think most lose a sense of purpose.

Must be a hell of a feeling knowing that one could literally do nothing wrong and still make close to a 100mil..

I think he just wasn’t hands on enough.
He claimed he didn’t call plays, but he had veto power over what was called. Then he must have not been paying attention to what was called.

Do you not sit down with your OC and establish a game plan?
Didn’t feel that way.

100%. By the end it was clear he wanted to get fired and get paid off. I think once he realized it was going to be a lot more work than he hoped it would be, he phoned it in.

He was past his energy prime age. We hired a 59 year old man who was already rich and successful. That was a mistake.

He has some personal shortcomings. He is not an inspirational leader. He is also a man who is almost universally disliked.

After the win against Alabama he gained a false sense of security that bit him in the arse severely.

He didn’t manage the coaching staff very well at all. Accountability from the staff means you have to spend time and effort with each to MAKE SURE they get it done. That really is the most important aspect to that job.

Just one example: we played an entire season without a defensive line coach. It’s a tough decision to get rid of a guy who just had a stroke, but those are the kinds of really tough decisions you HAVE to make when you have Kelly’s position.

Another, was not replacing a competent, experienced OC with another.

There are many examples.

He completely depended on his staff, and some them sucked.

All the stories coming out now about what a giant a-hole he is. That. Thats it. No want wants to play with that kind of count. You see the lethargy on the field and now it makes a lot more sense

He's not a bad coach necessarily but he's an entitled prick who thought he could come in and walk his way to a national championship and it just doesn't work like that

People don't take kindly to the way he was treating others when you aren't winning

I applaud LSU for realizing it wasn't going to cut it since he wasn't going to change and just cutting bait

2) He didn’t make decisions on needed changes quickly. It was obvious to most observers he needed to at least give VB a shot. Would not do it

It's before that.

I think he checked out after 2023.

I think he discovered that if he was successful his staff would be raided every year and he just got burnt out and made lazy hires and promotions.

Because he was never that great of a coach to begin with. Look at his career record vs ranked teams it’s horrendous.

He is the most overrated coach I can think of in the sport and he had no business ever being hired here.

We've all known men like Kelly, some of us have had bosses who has no idea what they were doing and we were left wondering how he ever became in charge. You know, like Biden. I'll bet Kelly voted for Harris.

There's probably a lot of truth to that and I wouldn't blame her.

Baton Rouge is not a desirable place to go to unless you have some kind of tie to LSU.

I feel like he was always one step behind. Not for not having a plan or being ill prepared, but to the timing and changing landscape of NIL and portal as he was coming in and still wanting high school recruiting to build his team, which made sense until the portal just went full free for all.

Then once he got that figured out some it was the D staff. Then he fixed it. Then it was the O staff. He was always fixing something over here with duct tape while the water was busting out of the seams over there. He wasn’t going to succeed like that. Always chasing the fix instead of being out in front of it all. Some his fault. Some just shite happens.

Was always willing to give him this year with this roster to fully gauge him and it completely unraveled in epic proportions. So, bye.

Took him waayyy too long to get the lay of the land and he really made a mess of hires early and let a couple stick around till the end which was a big mistake.

He was never a very likable guy, which for me I could GAF, but when you don't win at the level expected it don't play well.
