Does anyone remember what this is in reference to? Many are singing her praises in this thread. From the op:

quote:

Per the Germans at CBS.com:

NCAA Committee on Infractions chairman Dennis Thomas said LSU's violations were considered "major." He stressed that punishment could have been more severe if not for the efforts of LSU's compliance department.

He pointed specifically to senior associate athletic director Miriam Segar, who became suspicious of Hicks' living arrangements from the time he arrived in Baton Rouge. According to an earlier LSU report on the matter, Segar spent weeks pressing for answers and made the decision to bar Hicks from traveling to LSU's 2009 season-opening game at Washington because she was unsatisfied with the information she had received.

"That was critical," said Thomas, who is also the commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. "If that had not been done, the institution could have really been under more severe and serious penalties as well."

Seems pretty narcy to me. Simple google search also revealed she was caught up in firing and lawsuit of the old tennis coach? Article states LSU was sued by old tennis coach for, “retaliation and disparate pay amid unrealistic expectations.” “Segar has either lied or does not remember their conversations correctly concerning the firing of LSU women's tennis coach Tony Minnis in 2012.”

LINK

Just passing info along in case someone better informed than me has additional insight since she seems to possibly be a key player in the bafoonery going on within the athletic department.m currently.

It's awesome when someone truly cares about the job they do. She's in a semi low profile position but deserves high profile praise.

said it in 2011 and stand by it now, Saint Miriam did not help us in 2011 and has been nothing but a pain for years, ask anyone in any major sport, anyone who works at LSU (I do not) and you will hear the same..Hicks would never have been in trouble if it wasn't for her...and this is one of MANY scenarios....this si same woman in charge of Pokey, Basketball, Football etc. She has real power, heard it too many times not to believe what she really is...Don't know her but come on insiders on this board, tell some truth...

She was on the fricking campus and in the athletic department and it took her two weeks to figure it out. The NCAA would've never found out about that shite if she would've kept her mouth shut.

She didn't save us from shite.

More accurately, she and the compliance staff notified the NCAA of what they believed were improprieties.

In all likelihood, those improprieties would have gone unnoticed.

If the ncaa is singing your praises, you are the enemy of the institution you work for.

It doesn't bother me nearly as much to take action on a freshman (at the time) football player for the sake of covering the program's arse, but it really rubs me the wrong way when she tries to assert authority she doesn't have, if we are to believe it is her standing in the way of Wade and Alleva meeting. Sure, Hicks turned out to be a monster and we likely would have gotten away with it, but at least in that instance we had documented proof of improprieties and an assistant football coach that was a fricking moron for doing what he did when it was completely unnecessary. That used to be the kind of proactive measures that kept the NCAA off your back so you could get away with other unsavory recruiting tactics that were "off the books." This perceived "power" seems to have gone to her head.

So of all the football players we’ve had, Akiem Hicks was the only one that we broke rules for.

It's also worth noting that Hicks never played a down, LSU brought everything to the NCAA on a silver platter, and the NCAA still hit us with probation, a loss of scholarships, and a 10% reduction in official visits for 2 years.

Eta: he was suspended for shacking up with his girlfriend who was a football ops employee. Cry me a fricking river

IIRC weren't those our self imposed penalties that the NCAA ultimately accepted? Have a feeling the NCAA wouldn't have hit us that hard given Hicks never played a down and coach was fired immediately. As with most offers, if the initial offer is accepted, you probably offered too much
