SEC storied “More than a voice” screw up

Documentary on best radio voices in SEC history. They barely mention Jim Hawthorne and the one clip they show the “Earthquake Game” and they play the call from TV announcer Mike Patrick and say it’s Jim Hawthorne… what a joke.

Jim isn’t in the same realm as Larry Munson and John Ward. Those are real genuine homer legends.
Now John Ferguson and his baritone voice and “all alone in the moonlight” should get a mention.

Come on man I would put his Warren Morris walk off call up there with any call in SEC history!

John Ferguson is the King. Hawthorne's call of the Warren Morris home run was his finest hour.

Hawthorne’s Morris HR call was his best. Since I believe this was mostly about football, Jim fricked up one of his best chances with the Jack Hunt call.

And here’s Tasmin Mitchell…swings it over to Clarence Caesar. SHAVON COLEMAN! What a play

Coined the phrase “intercomplete pass”

They actually did show a short John Ferguson clip on the call with Bert Jones beating Ole Miss with the two plays in 4 seconds

They said that very few announcers get to call NC wins in multiple sports and yet they don’t give us Hawthorne’s WM walkoff and ANY football call.

In the 80s, before I knew there would be an internet, I felt like I needed to tape record a Hawthorne game. I picked the Fla St game which enabled the Tigers go to the Orange Bowl….. “It’s hailing oranges in the south end zone.
Plus, when I read certain players names I hear Ferguson saying it: Juan Betanzos, the Hilliard James Gang,

Back in the early 90s dark ages, Hawthorne one time said "the Tigers are huddling without an offense."
Have to say, it was actually pretty accurate.
GEAUX TIGERS!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I think LSU is distancing itself from JH.

What about Moo U call of their baseball championship? “I’ll take it.” After a call where the final out should’ve been safe.

What do you mean? Why would they do that?

Just another in his long list of f*cked up calls.
