What is stopping the SEC from suspending Lane and not directly punishing LSU?

They’d be Breaking a court order, likely get a contempt of court and get fined. Lane wouldn’t even miss a game

I understand that, they aren’t stopping the players from playing though.

They’d be punishing Lane for not following conference rules

Edit: bc if what Todd Monken was saying is true that Lane reached out before the TE was cut that’s recruiting professionals

And then Monken followed it up by saying it wasn’t true and he misspoke. He said he should not have used Kiffins name. It was a staffer or someone affiliated.

Didn’t lane say this wasn’t true. And why would he need to call Todd Munkin? You think he was telling him to cut him so lsu could he could come back to lsu?? Help me to understand how this phone call would go?

Yeah, I kinda like this quote from the linked article:

"Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken walked back earlier remarks suggesting that LSU's Lane Kiffin called him about Dae'Quan Wright, the latest twist in a bizarre transfer portal saga involving the former NFL tight end. Kiffin publicly denied the conversation happened, saying Monday there were "inaccuracies" in Monken's story and that he does not have his number or know him personally.

Monken initially claimed last week that Kiffin reached out regarding Wright's availability and possible return to college football. Now, Monken agrees that no such call took place, clearing up a claim that quickly generated headlines across the sport.

"First off, I should not ... one of our staff had said, that's why I said 'us' and not 'me' ... one of our staff had said they had gotten a text," Monken said. "I should've followed through with it. Maybe they meant someone from (LSU's) staff. That's on me. Should not throw someone's name on there without following through on it.

"I was just making light of it. I was really not trying to make a big thing of it. I was just like, 'man, what this world has come to.' It was almost silliness and goofiness. It's really not a big deal other than I probably shouldn't have (said that) without following through.""

Define pro athlete

Sankey couldn’t on the stand yesterday. The threats are meaningless now. The federal suit is now worthless and frivolous. He doesn’t know nor can he define it per his own admission. SEC is in pure damage control now as Sankey sunk all leverage they potentially had with his testimony.

That’s essentially what the SEC is asking for in the Alabama federal case. They’re asking the judge to essentially overrule the part of the LA ruling that says they can’t punish LSU.

Understand this. The SEC made up this rule and punishment mechanism literally a week ago. And did it without regard for understanding why these players were suing for eligibility.

I hate to point this out but the league illustrated a lack of comprehension of the issues. They apparently live in a bubble. They mistakenly think that CLK and LSU perpetrated this and are just trying to put an NFL team on the field for a competitive advantage. Which isn't the fact.

I guess they could do that and end up being drug into another law suit. Sankey seems to like having the sec taken to court and its members being sued

Especially when he walked back his claim a few days later.

Wouldn't the SEC have to find Lane or LSU in violation of something? Good luck with that.

If he reached out to Todd Monken ahead of time that potentially could be the rabbit hole they go down.
