re: SEC ESPN host Peter Burns makes the case for retaining Matt McMahon at LSU

I’m honestly floored anyone can look at the results and endorse his return.
Anybody making excuses for his results at this point is just sugarcoating the fact that it does make sense for him to coach next year from a financial and replacement standpoint.
The ball is in Wade's court. Money would likely be available on both ends should he say he wanted back now. If he is inclined to give NC St the year he gave McNeese out of goodwill, why would you fire McMahon to hire someone for one season?

This.
NC State was 12-19 (5-15) last season. Wade "underachieved" and has them at 20-13 (10-8) in the NCAA Tournament.

Argue against Wade being the guy everyone here believes him to be? Reasonable.
This.
The hyperbole about Wade, in both directions, is stupid. He's a very good coach. You don't coach for 12 years, never have a losing season, and reach the NCAA Tournament 8x (would have been 9) without being a good coach. This was the 4th program he's taken over coming off a losing season (UTC, LSU, McNeese, NC State) and immediately improved the record the next year by several wins. But he's also not in the upper echelon of coaches in the game right now.
That said, he is the most known commodity on the market LSU could reasonably hire. Golden, Hurley, Oats, Self, Painter, etc, etc, aren't leaving their successful programs to come coach LSU. Those types of moves just don't happen in basketball often. On the flip side, it is entirely possible a guy sitting at a mid-major school right now is destined to be the next great coach and someone is going to get him. But there is NO guarantee that is the case.

The results are all that matter.

Burns wanted LSU to hire Drink for the football coach role, fyi
It's amazing how people still believe this.
Moscona asked Burns to make a case for Drinkwitz because, at the time, Moscona claimed Drinkwitz was the backup plan if Kiffin said no.
That said, we shouldn't run it back with McMahon. The injury argument only holds weight if you believe he would've taken these teams to the NCAA Tournament when healthy.

If he only knew right? You’re not a fan period, not even a McMahon fan. You just hate the basketball fans.

As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about.
There are things called tournament units for appearing in and winning in each round of the tournament worth $2 million each. The team that earns the units keeps most of the money when distributed among SEC schools.
Also, the increased parking, ticket sales, and merchandise and concessions can add up to a substantial amount for a winning basketball team. Reportedly, Bama went from our $1-2 million profit to anywhere between $6-10 million with the hiring of Oates.
The only good point you've ever made on the rant is that the PMAC rims need to be tightened.

If Wade wants to come the boosters will pay. If he doesn't then they may not be as motivated to take a risk on another mid major coach. That being said this whole Reed thing is hilarious. LSU lost 11 SEC games by an avg of 5.8 pts. To act like DJ and Reed wouldn't have helped overcome some of those is ridiculous. Like I've said, I understand the side of wanting Mcmahon fired but you don't have to make up s**t to express it. You didn't need Shaq. You just needed a healthy Reed and Thomas and they re in the tournament which was the goal for this year. I'm in favor of firing if they have a viable proven coach in place. If they keep Mcmahon another year and give him $10-$12 mil like the top teams in the SEC or like NCST then maybe he upgrades the talent level and they exceed expectations next year.If he doesn't then you will probably have more motivated boosters and you get your new coach next year.

Everyone outside of the program wants to keep him at LSU because they beat the piss out of us regularly, dumbass.
What are you, 5 years old??

You are an idiot if you’re actually suggesting giving this fraud more money. Do you work for the government? What makes you think that McMahon has the COACHING CHOPS to successfully manage a more expensive roster?
Texas Texh lost JT Toppin (arguably the best player in the Big 12 to injury) but they only went 3-0 over the next three games including a win against #4 Iowa State. Spare me the injury excuse.
You have terrible judgment if there’s any part of you that thinks we should continue with this failure a second longer.

Exactly. When Rick Barnes sings McMahon’s praises, he honestly doesn’t believe that. He just enjoys the rent a win each season.

It amazes me how national media have to throw their two cents in on keeping a coach that finished dead last in his fourth year. How LSU fans need to bite the bullet and to just accept a fifth year of losing.
If this was Kentucky or Duke or North Carolina or his Alma Mater would he recommend the same? Burns sounds like the anti LSU trolls that come on this board to give horse sh#t advice!
They trying to keep LSU down. Bring back Will Wade and watch these people take a collective dump on themselves!
Geaux Tigers!

This same exact post was screamed from the rafters defending this EPIC FAILURE last year at this time (most likely by you AND others).
And it was predicted then that the same LSU basketball haters would pop up with the same weak defense of McMahon in one year. Here it is like clockwork.

To act like they would is just as ridiculous. Im fricking sick of talking down on Jalen Reed. I don’t like talking bad about any player but he’s a glorified warm body. fricking Tamba was more useful. And while Thomas is a nice player and certainly looked great against the calamity jane portion of our schedule, his sec numbers were below average in the sec games he played.
LINE BREAK
Give McMahon the most talented group of players in the nation and he’s still losing several games because he’s not putting guys in position to succeed. We rarely press, rarely play zone and when we do play zone you can see why we don’t play zone, we play a feeble man to man where our perimeter players get blown by at will and there’s rarely a last line of defense to bail them out.
LINE BREAK
Offensively we are even worse. “Gee, if only Reed and Thomas were available!” We would still be running the signature lack of McMovement offense with one lazy high ball screen followed by 20 seconds of hot potato with lazy passes and…turnovers. All of the fricking turnovers. The turnovers that occur at such an alarming rate because the “system” is shite and gets eaten alive by any half witted opponent.
We should be looking to smother opponents, get stops and run outs. Thats how less talented/injury riddled teams stay competitive. But we’re the polar opposite. Who wants to run when you can keep it conservative and still lose to Mississippi State at home by 20?

Texas Tech has spent considerably more money than LSU the last few years and they didn't lose their PG.They are deeper talent wise because of that. LSU makes the tournament with a healthy DJ and a healthy Reed but an extra $1.5 - 3 mil can add a little more depth or another talented player. Like I said LSU lost 11 games by an avg of 5.8 pts. Most without DJ and Reed and one each without Mckinnon and Miller also. I'd say you are the idiot.

We’re in year 4 of his tenure and none have been close to the tournament
So saying a 3 win SEC team would have been in with better health is a large assumption to make. At 6-7 wins, maybe you have a case
