They didn’t name punishments because they know this issue will have further litigation. The one smart thing SEC did was to not put out the punishment, that would’ve revealed their hand

The players’ legal argument is that the NCAA’s exclusion of the 2022 class from the new 5-for-5 eligibility framework causes irreparable harm because these athletes made major career decisions under the old eligibility rules, before knowing they would later have another year available.

The argument isn’t simply that they deserve a fifth year. It’s that they were deprived of an opportunity that was subsequently made available to similarly situated athletes, and that the harm can’t be fully remedied later because a lost college season, NIL opportunities and the ability to develop for the NFL cannot simply be recovered through monetary damages.

That’s the basis for seeking temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions: show a likelihood of success on the underlying claim, irreparable harm if relief isn’t granted, and that the balance of equities favors allowing the athletes to compete while the case proceeds.

Lane Kiffin echoed that position today, saying there are “court orders all over the country” involving these players and that LSU has followed those orders. He also distinguished these athletes from someone who simply spends years in the NFL and then wants to return to college, arguing that these players were part of the group that was supposed to receive the additional season under the new eligibility framework. TLDR: for the moment they have that power, though it is my belief based upon available information that the “irreparable harm at the hands of the NCAA” claim could now be applied to SEC by saying the rule was created after his agreement to join LSU, or that the SEC is infringing on a player’s eligibility, etc etc

Any rule restricting players earning potential is going to get struck down. Period.

Remember, Brendan Sorsby could still play this season if he wanted. He gave up the fight. And his situation is way worse than any of these players.

Will not affect the 2022 TROs

I bet when the lawsuit comes it’s simply gonna state that it will have to be from this day fourth and not retroactive .
