Needs to stay on midweek games. He didn’t do that well when he went in for Missouri.

Well he hasn’t pitched well against Mizzou or Texas. So either you let him find his way in SEC action or move him to the mid week
Games

Schmidt’s fastball has zero movement. That’s a problem.

I think if he stops elevating his pitches he will be fine. Not ready to say that yet. Spot his pitches better

This was probably good experience for him.

He’s too wild so far. Hope he puts it all together soon.

He just couldn’t land the breaking ball tonight, but when he does he will be much better. Tonight was just a bit too big for him.

Doesn’t matter if he ever lands the breaking ball if he can’t locate the fastball. Like someone said above it’s flat but he throws hard enough that it wouldn’t matter with his breaking ball IF he could locate his flat FB.

I don't know Schmidt. But probably never come into a game like this as a reliever. He is a starter and it is different from relieving vs Texas in a close game with ducks on the pond.

He did not look comfortable to me at any time.

He will be. Player development is part of the process. That development is part of a sports season. These moments will help him be ready for SEC weekends.

He was not ready for that situation. That was an awful call by Jay.

Schmidt will be fine. That was a horrible situation to put him in.

94.5 with no movement works at Catholic and travel ball.
SEC - not so much.

For me, this is why college baseball is one of the hardest sports to coach. You have to get your roster (pitchers, primarily) ready for a postseason run, while winning enough to make it into the postseason. That means putting guys in difficult situations early on who may not be quite ready to hopefully get them ready later on when it counts. It’s a fine line. Not easy.

Eventually he will be. He could have a similar season to Kade Anderson last year. I would have like to see Schmidt last night with a clean start to an inning and sizable lead.
