Frick the players. They are all jumping for NIL money. The coach owes them nothing.

Apparently Schloss has a younger gf/wife potential who wants to live in Austin rather than BCS.
Aggies were paying him 1.35, he'll get 1.46 at Texas.
This was dumb bc he could have worked until he retired in BCS after this year, but Texas will fire his arse if it doesn't work out.
Not to mention the whole Aggie/UT rivalry ... what a debacle for a team expecting to fit rings.

Was talking to a coworker this morning & googled his contract & saw this
quote:
His contract situation will make an exit to Texas expensive. According to Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesmen, Schlossnagle made $1.35 million this season, and his “buyout is twice as high if he’s hired by another in-state school.”

This is the biggest slap in the face possible. Hilarious

Those ridiculous "Good" hats that the Aggie fans were wearing at the games are going to be collectors' items!
I can't find one for sale anywhere !

The dude literally said you would have to carry him away in a coffin. A&M is a clown school.

A&M you wanna talk about it?

This is certainly embarrassing, but A&M will be just fine if they hire a good coach and are able to hang onto their stud pitching coach. Not only is he a great pitching coach, but his relationship with people in MLB--he came from the Mariners organization, I believe--and professional agents has given them an advantage in recruiting--high school and portal.
That, combined with their NIL infrastructure, and what must be an even bigger commitment to spend and win before UT, and I don't think they'll have any problems getting the same caliber players. Need a competent, but maybe younger coach with a more dynamic personality and charisma than Schloss, and they are probably still in a better position to win in the SEC and get back to Omaha with a chance to win than UT.
So again, super embarrassing, but if they hire the right guy and retain the pitching coach, they may wind up better for it. Or at least about a wash.

It was just announced, Texas has taken their entire coaching staff, including the pitching coach.

Oh shite. That's tough. They may be fricked.

Yeah, them taking Weiner is brutal. But why wouldn't he go? People way undervalue quality of life when it comes to judging what are the "best" jobs. They ONLY look at where they think it's easier to win and money. And when those are basically a wash, like they are here, quality of life plays a much bigger part than people realize.
I don't think it matters as much to coaches--they'll be spending most of their time at the baseball facilities. But it damn sure matters to their families--wives, kids, in-laws, parents, etc...And as someone who lived in Austin for 6 years, it blows its competitors out of the water. Zilker Park, Barton Springs, Town Lake (frick Ladybird), Auditorium Shores, Mt. Bonnell, Hill Country, Lake Austin, Lake Travis, and on and on and on.
Give a coach a house on the hillside of Lake Travis and an apartment close to campus, and that's some nice living for everybody in the coach's orbit. Now, their age, their hobbies, how old their kids are, grandkids potentially--all the cool things Austin has to offer may not appeal to certain guys. And it's always hard to get a guy who you want to leave, because he's probably got a pretty good gig already, otherwise you wouldn't want him. And the Austin extracurriculars may not be enough to convince guys to go through the hassle of uprooting their families and their coaches' families.
But quality of life could still play a big part, and I think Schloss clearly would rather work for his buddy than Trev Alberts. Trev may be great to work for, but Schloss doesn't know that yet. He does know what it's like to work for Del Conte. And timing is always the #1 factor in a big coaching change. The timing of leaving A&M the day after losing the CWSCG is pretty terrible.
But this is likely the last time he'd get that opportunity. Let's say he turned it down and UT hired Skip Johnson from OU and he has immediate success. If Schloss and Trev start butting heads, he doesn't get his new $90 million ballpark, whatever. That UT parachute won't be available anymore. Then he's stuck in bad situation, and to get out, best case scenario is he lands in Oxford or Starkville or somewhere similar. Good jobs where you can obviously win, but it they ain't UT and they're not in Austin.
All that said, I get why he took the job. But the way it was done was shitty and slimy. I'd much rather live in Austin than College Station, but I couldn't have done what he did. BUT, even if I was going to take that job and had already made up my mind, I would have never allowed the Texas AD to announce Pearce's firing the day of the CWS Final, fly to Omaha, and compromise my team's chance of winning the NC. If he did it without Schloss's permission, I think I would have backed out of the deal and had to pull a Les Miles in '07 and hold a press conference before the game and say definitively that he was 100% coming back to A&M next year and nip all the rumors in the bud to give his team the best chance of winning that game Monday night. You know that weighed on them all day. I just couldn't have done that to my guys.

I'm not surprised. I sort of thought this might happen.
The guy has been in the state of Texas forever. He was at TCU for a long time, then A&M hired him and now he leaves College Station for Austin. I doubt he shows his face again in College Station.
Talk about a kick in the gut for Aggie fans. I almost feel bad for them.
Almost.
They're an odd bunch.

I don’t know where you got that.
Rumors are it’s a 10yr deal at $3m per year
No way anyone at that level makes that kind of move with the backlash for 100k/yr
He’ll definitely be over 2mil per, and I would guess the $3m per is probably accurate based on the circumstances

That's what I was thinking. Maybe somewhere between 2 and 3, but he didn't leave for $1.45 unless it did include 10 years guaranteed and a house on Lake Travis.
