I remember that '04 Iowa Bowl Game. The vibe around town prior was that he was going to the NFL and that was that. There was a shite ton of people who were legit ready to move on and see what the next step was. Nick wasn't the Saban of today then. How could anyone have ever thought he'd become what he became?

If it all didn't shake out like it did, who knows? Could he have recruited here like he did after he fricked over Miami and left? Could he have put teams together here like the gravitas of being an Alabama gets you?

Nobody knows. He may have won 10 more NC's or he could have won zero.

There isn't a player Saban couldn't have gotten at LSU that he gets at bama. Saban finds a way. He's old school like that. Too many people will tell you they can't do something. Saban powers through.

Whenever I meet a guy wearing bama gear, I say "how are your blue devils gonna do in march madness this year", because invariably, EVERY ONE of those front running son of a bastages are Duke hoops fans. I also tell them "imagine if Saban had stayed at LSU the last 20 years, what would we have, a dozen rings?". They typically agree.

Oh, and why the hell not would we have missed out on 2019? Do you think Saban wouldn't have the talent stacked up yearly in BR that he has at bama?

One of the things Saban preaches is the power of believing and culture of winning. He said that when he got to LSU there was a culture of negativity. He knew that the building blocks were there but he just needed to change the culture. He quickly got us winning but he didn’t stay long enough to change the culture. That typically takes @ 15 years. It happened with the saints. I see kids today who just expect to win. That wasn’t the case when I was a kid.

Had Saban been here from 2000-2015, I expect that we would have at least 10 championships and we would have built a culture of winning that would last for a very long time.

He was putting together an insane recruiting class then walked out on LSU that XMAS day.
Skip should have offered him double the highest coaching salary to keep him. The payoff for another 5 to 8 national championships would have been in the billions.

Honestly, he would have gotten so tired of the up and down nature of our fans and the catastrophe syndrome you guys have that there is zero chance he would have lasted 15 years.

It wouldn’t have been as much as he won at Bama because they have a different mindset over there. Every fabric of that school looks out for the best interest of the football program. Here we have compliance and academic people who try to undermine the program. Alabama ,as much as I hate them , have a do whatever it takes kind of mentality(cheat) that I admire. Case in point they would have never let an incompetent coach like LM to coach for that long. They sure as hell wouldn’t have hired a Dline coach with a terrible resume to replace him either

Maybe one. $aban isn’t that great of a coach—his stint in the NFL proved that. What he excels at is stockpiling talent. And LSU doesn’t pay players the way Bama does. Listen to McKinstry’s statement on signing day: "I put my family in mind. It's not just all about me," McKinstry said. "I mean, I gotta feed the fam. Everybody knows what football at Alabama can do for you...that was very important and I feel like anybody can take care of anybody lifelong." LINK
Corruption is a way of life in Alabama. And with the crimson foxes watching the SEC henhouse, it will never change. If any other program starts to rise (Tennessee, LSU, and now Florida) the NCAA gets tipped off, but Bama is running it clean as a whistle? C’mon, man!

Of course you can - you can what if literally anything.

It just doesn't mean anything.

Saban was a different (and better) coach after his failed stint with the Dolphins. Yes, his NFL experience was not successful, but he learned things from that failed experience that took him to another level
I disagree. Years and years of No.1 recruiting classes took him to another level. It’s been proven at LSU, Miami, and others that you don’t have to be a great coach if you have the best talent.
In fact one could argue that Saban isn’t a great coach. He has the best talent year after year and wins championships in less than half the time (5 in 13 years).
In his first four years at Michigan State (when he didn’t have the best talent in the country year after year like he does now) he went 25-22-1. In only one of those seasons he won more than 6 games.

Don't keep doing this to yourself.... your dream coach left you, I know this time of the year it's hard to quit hurting but you have to move on with your fan life.

The only purpose for the University of Alabama to exist is for football.

Nothing else matters and therefore a lot more gets swept under the rug. Alabama and Auburn are two of the most penalized programs in CFB history. It will happen again and they will go back on probation

But they have gotten smarter about it. It all happens where Saban has plausible deniability. Everything is done outside his view.

Also, how many Alabama players have been suspended or kicked off for weed? I will hang up and listen. Saban controls everything at Alabama.

That’s the one I’m most sure of. That team was maybe the most loaded we’ve ever had. If we don’t just run the toss to a fat Justin Vincent over and over we probably win that auburn game by multiple scores.

This is so dumb.

LSU Saban would NEVER get the benefits of rematches, etc, that Bama Saban does.

Give this up.

Three, maybe four, which is where we are now.

Dumb statement. You can literally “what if” anything. What if you didn’t respond to this post? See? Real easy. Relax bro, it’s Christmas Eve.

This. Also, in some alternate universe, what if 1999 Saban ends up at Bama? Once he won a title, he'd have just as well eventually wanted to make an NFL run. It was never about money.
