Kelly might not be the guy but Saban was 8-5 in his 3rd year at LSU.

It's pretty simple for me if I'm LSU admin. If we aren't in the playoffs by 2026 then he's gone and even if he makes the playoffs in 2026 he should have a base of players returning for 2027 to make another run at it. To me that's the deadline. If we limp into 2026 playoffs and lose out early and then are set to lose a bunch of guys and have a rebuilding year then you move on as well.

I'm somewhat optimistic for year 4 especially for the defense. The road schedule will be brutal though so my expectations are low.

His resume was built on beating cream puffs. Notre Dame has not played the top tier schools, when they do they get their arse handed to them. He is in over his head in the SEC. He is not the second coming of Nick Saban. He’s 63 and he cannot adapt to the new college landscape. He needs to retire and LSU needs a younger, more energetic coach.

They were seriously outcoached Saturday.

That's 100% on Kelly.

Still can’t believe how fricking dumb of a contract this is. It’s not really the money, it’s the length. Brian Kelly at 5 yrs 10 mil is a bad contract. BK at 10 yrs 100 mil should make him unemployed

In 2002, with the No. 12 team in the country, Saban lost at home to Alabama 31-0. The next season LSU won the National Championship.

I'm NOT saying BK will do that next year, but rarely does one game signify a complete downward trajectory.

There are many reasons to be critical of BK. The fact that LSU still has below average talent on the defensive end in year 3, and the fact he seems unwilling to tweak a predictable offensive approach is chief among them. However, the nuclear freak out by some is largely a byproduct of unrealistic expectations for this season. This was always likely a 9-3 (10-2 season if LSU beat USC). That is where the season is heading. Were we hoping for a better season in year 3? Yep. But considering there is likely to be only 1 (maybe two) of 16 SEC teams with less than 2 conference losses this season (and none with zero) there may be a reevaluation of expectations in this new era of college football.

The coaches hold ALL of the leverage in negotiations.

Does a 10 years/$100m contract have the chance to become a big albatross? Absolutely. But in the same breath you can't be when an AD doesn't make a "splash" hire because that is the kind of numbers it takes to do so. That's simply the reality of the marketplace.

Agreed! Everything is getting worse. BK has always been a really good, if not great, coach, but he always lacked the passion, the competetive nature to become a champion. He was ok with staying at ND, but tired and looking for a golden parachute. I didn't realize he is 63 - seems much older. LSU came calling with an open checkbook and we were conned. Expect it to be only maddening from here.

The O Line is a very big part of the problem, they cannot move anyone even a foot off the ball, weakest group I have ever seen at LSU in 65 years of watching them. Kelly has other issues, like cursing players and coaches on the sideline. Have to wonder if there is not something else going on, like his very long time assistant leaving two weeks ago, no comments from anyone. Makes one wonder.

He can't leave soon enough! Damn yankee needs to go back up north. He does not deserve to be with us. He's all "word salad".

His first year was a perfect example. When he over performs and beats Alabama and if he wins out he can make it to the playoff. Then he loses to an awful Texas A&M team.

Even if he would have beaten Alabama Saturday he would probably lose to Florida or vandy. For some reason his teams just never win when they have to.
