Sam Leavitt comparison

He reminds me of pre injury Matt Mauck

I see Baker Mayfield attitude and all.

Josh is 6'5 240 and is physically imposing in his running style. Sam is 6'2 210-215 and is trying use his quick twitch to get by defenders.

Sure maybe his mindset of doing Superman is similar but otherwise that is a very bad comparison. His playing style, build, and elusiveness is not Josh Allen.

What is kind of weird to me is how our fanbase just assumes Leavitt has had a problem with ints his entire career. Played in 13 games in that Arizona State playoff run and had 6. Played in 7 games last year and had 3. The pick against Clemson was the right read but just missed behind. That ball is picked maybe 2% of the time on that route and throw. Sam was trying to do too much against Tech. Hopefully learned the lesson of take what the defense gives you. My point is he hasn't been a big INT thrower ever in his career except against Louisiana Tech.

He reminds me of a guy from intramural football at LSU named Scatterfly.

Leavitt relies on his speed and knowing when to make the important cut.

In his most recent breakdown of LSU vs. Ole Miss, Brooks Austin called Leavitt a one-cut runner. That's what Leavitt is. He's a speed, one-cut runner who is fearless.

He's not a shifty runner like Jackson or Hooker. He doesn't have elite speed like RGIII. He's not a bull runner like Tebow or Newton. He's not a dead-leg, spin, improvisational chaos runner like Manziel.

Baker Mayfied was FAR more of a passer than a runner. In Mayfield's junior and senior years at Oklahoma, he threw for 3,965 and 4,627 yards. Leavitt's never had even a 3,000-yard season passing.

In his last two years at OU, Mayfield rushed for only 177 and 311 yards, with 2.3 and 3.2 Y/C. In just two games, Leavitt has already rushed for 135 yards with 5.9 Y/C. Like Manziel, Mayfield relied on improvisational chaos for his rushing yards; Mayfield also relied on pump fakes and short area speed. Leavitt is a far superior runner to Mayfield.

They do, however, have a similar attitude.

Although he had a longer and smoother stride, the best comparison for Leavitt is Jayden Daniels. Both QBs rely on speed. Both QBs are one-cut runners.
