I stand corrected, I just looked at his class rankings. I thought it took him a few years to get recruiting rolling but it does appear immediate.

when he came back to college his recruiting went to another level

He had to rebuild lsu...I know he did with Bama also but we don't know how good he could've had us if the dolphins wouldn't have stole him

1. While the ceiling at LSU is high, its even higher at Bama.

This is an easy thing to say given the current climate, but I just don't think it's the case. I think there are 4 programs in the SEC with equally high ceilings due to their natural resources and infrastructure in place. UGA, LSU, UF, and of course Alabama.

This is pretty easy, he wasn't a national championship winning coach and as well known when he came to LSU. He had to sell himself as much as he did LSU as far as getting recruits to come there. When he came to Bama people already new he was great.

The national media blew up when he came to Bama, not the same when he went to LSU.

He was involved in more of a turnaround at LSU.

Every CEO whp is a turnaround specialist will have more balance sheets with losses than the CEO who follows him.

Yep, his NFL exit brought a ton of national media. Even though it was critical/negative press it was great for Bama.

He didn't stay long enough. If he would not have went to the pros, lsu wins the nc in 2005, 2006, and 2007. But his fre was to be an nfl head coach. He would have left eventually anyway.

No deep theory, just saying he didnt start at Bama with 5-star kids beating his door down to play for him.

I've always believed this as well. Those teams were incredibly talented.

Look up Albert Means and then think about why Saban is so successful getting all the 5 star players he wants in Gumpland.

So what happened last year when his vastly superior team got taken to OT by Anthony Jennings? Les had nothing to do with that, right?

One thing that gets missed also is the timing, he came to Bama with MONSTER instate class. He wasn;t depending on out of state kids, because that class in Alabama for 2008 was insane and loaded with future NFL players. His notoriety combined with that easy first class created a huge momentum in recruiting.

In addition, for all of Shula's deficiencies, he left Saban with a NFL OL.
