I dont know much about this kid’s glove, but this team has glaring holes if his bat is legit as some have said.

This is the way of the portal, I guess.

It’s also a bitch move to enter portal on a day that we play an elimination game.

The portal just opened today... He was already shipped off to summer ball. He isn't even around the team at the moment.

Why? Why do kids leave good situations? I understand the guys who clearly don't have a path to playing time, but Costello had every chance to be our starting first baseman next year. Why walk away from that? I don't want to hear that it's because he's mad he didn't get much playing time this year. He didn't earn it. But we're about to lose a lot of players to graduation and the draft, and he stands as the most likely in-house option at first base.

Does he just not believe in himself? If not, why should anyone else give him playing time? No matter how I look at it, no angle makes sense.

LSU has another elite recruiting class and Johnson always hits the portal hard. This is the new reality of college athletics.

Wasn't surprised Hogg hit the portal, but this was is a bit of a surprise. I thought he had a shot at 1B next season.

Which guys played this year at positions that Costello can play that sucked most of the year?

There was no room for Costello to make the starting lineup. But Jones rarely comes out of the game even in blowouts, which means that his backups get almost no chances to play. It's going to be hard to retain guys when they get to bat once in the last 2+ months. It's somewhat odd for someone whom the coaching staff was supposedly pretty high on.

Pretty sure the portal just opened and he’s like a thousand miles away from Baton Rouge.

How do we know he was in a good situation? We don't know the conversations that he's had with coaches. He could be 5th in line for 1st base, not including any transfers that we might bring in.

I do agree with that. We leave starters in longer than seems necessary a lot. The 10 run rule doesn't help early in the season either with getting bench guys ABs or additional innings for pitchers.

We need to focus on scheduling teams that won't use the 10 run rule.

jones seems to be the one guy that never, ever comes out, he gets more than enough ABs and still doesn't miss a meal at the plate.

Can’t blame him when the player playing ahead of you is in a 30 game hitting slump and you don’t get a pinch hitting opportunity it’s demoralizing.

If he couldn’t beat out Beck and Baby Pearson for PH appearances, that’s on him, not Jay.

We know, because of how many guys are about to leave, and based on every thing coaches say about him, that he is logically next in line.

But if LSU brings in some monsters out of the portal that block him, he could always leave then. Instead, he barely waits for the door to be opened to the portal, and he's walking through it. How does he know his next destination isn't going to bring in other transfers who put him right back on the bench? There's a lot more certainty here, than going into a completely new situation.
