You misunderstood.
I meant he’s not going out of his way to include famous ex players by hiring them as coaches when they have no experience.
That’s a much different animal than including them in alumni stuff and invited them to practice.
Raymond is elite, Dennis worked his way up, and Ensminger did not get promoted because he went to LSU.

I’d have more of a problem with him hiring someone with no coaching experience than moving SE to OC. Sorry Ryan.

Instead he is promoting former players for positions they haven't been in in 20 years.

I don't think you need a ton of actual coaching experience to take on a position job. Johnson has been a grad assistant for a few years but he hasn't been around football nearly as long as Clark. Clark played under some VERY good coaches in college and in the NFL. He has plenty of practical experience for a job like safeties coach IMO. if we were asking him to coach the entire defense or even the secondary I would tend to agree, but we're talking about a very specific group and coaching the position he played for 12 years in the NFL, winning a super bowl and making the pro bowl. I think safeties coach is about as entry level as it gets

I got the impression that Aranda wanted a safties coach and would probably be hiring said coach.

Playing it and coaching it are 2 different things. That being said, Clark was an undersized guy who had a great career so he's probably smarter than most. He really should try to get his foot in the door somewhere as an analyst or even high school/ small college job if that's what he wants to do. But most of these guys don't want to pay their dues, they just want to jump straight into a big job with no coaching experience.

word on the street (via the Coaching Changes board) is that Aranda will be hiring an asst DB coach from the Dolphins who was Dave's DB coach at Wisconsin

The issue is not just knowledge, but the actual task of being a coach. Working long hours, being on the road recruiting -- does a rich, former NFL player want the headache and responsibility?
Working your way up does not entail just learning your job, but it shows your boss that you are committed to the craft and will put in the work and hours needed.
