Hasn't he been coaching in the private sector at Traction for several years now? Technique is the most important thing when coaching DBs and I'm pretty confident Clark is proficient in that area. I think it's also a given with his personality and love off LSU he would make a great recruiter.

That being said I totally understand Aranda wanting someone he's familiar with that also is familiar with his scheme. Jones has an extensive history with Aranda and his defense.

Hold on. Haven’t you argued before that orgeron was qualified and a good choice when others were saying he needed to go coach at a smaller program first to prove himself? The argument was that he had been around great coaches and learned his lessons so there was no need to coach at a lower level before LSU.

NOW potential position coaches need to prove themselves first and cut their teeth at smaller schools but this wasn’t necessary for the head coach?

Ok cool, just wanted to clarify

Clark had my support to be the head coach one day, until he supported the kneelers. he can carry his sorry arse to another country and coach football. screw him....

You don’t remember Clark too well do you? Undersized and not very fast or strong. Despite not being a physical freak he hung around the league for 10+ years. I’m pretty confident his technique is fundamentally solid.

Your best coaches doesn’t necessarily come from one of the best players at that position they usually come from like a third string walk on type that has to rely on their technic and be fundamentaly sound To be decent at the position. when you’re a good technician and your fundamentally sound you could teach them things

Or because he beat players at a position have NFL careers and retire.

Some top talent top coaches
Steve Spurrior
Mike Ditka
Mike Singletary (good dc)

Hiring a bunch of former players with no previous college experience, both coaching and recruiting is a recipe for disaster.

Clark and Mawae would probably love to be on staff but most become grad assts before they climb the ladder.

We have enough good ole boys on staff right now.

I have to say though, former LSU players have done quite well as assistants like Dunbar, Bo Davis, Corey Raymond, etc.

That will leave a mark

But I don’t support his hire. If you want to coach, go be a ga and get started by learning to teach young men how to play football

I'm all for who Aranda hires, but some of you make it sound like he'll be coming from ESPN straight to coaching. One, he's the head coach of the 7v7 team. Second, he gets paid to teach/train db's at Traction. You combine that with his experience at the position and being a younger guy, it'll be a great hire in my opinion.

Interim O was all about involving former players. Haven’t heard much stir about that this year..

This just isn't true, I've never seen as many former players at games as this year.

Here comes the buffoons saying Clark doesn’t know enough to coach safeties.

No, that's not the point.
Just because I guy can play and knows the position doesn't mean he can coach. It's no different than Mawae not getting an OL coaching position even though he is a potential NFL Hall-of-Famer.

Clark certainly knows defenses and technique. Can he coach? Who knows? He doesn't have a track record.

Playing it and coaching it are 2 different things. That being said, Clark was an undersized guy who had a great career so he's probably smarter than most.

That's why he'd be a good coach. He needed a brilliant mind to make the most of his (comparatively) mediocre physical tools.

It's guys with elite physical talent who have a hard time making the transition. Singletary is a good example.

Only heard of 2 of them and I got my season tickets in ‘75...
Man Ensminger was shamed into this.
