I do think that Shepard will be a QB/WR for LSU this season and will be the starting QB when Jefferson leaves. I mean, I know this because I am a student of the game.

not even close

Every day Russell Shepard hears the same doubts about his ability to throw the football and remain at quarterback. It is really starting to wear him out.
"I am constantly fighting to prove I am a quarterback, not an athlete playing quarterback. I love the responsibility that comes with the position. I am a leader and I want the ball in my hands every play."

Shepard says his top five are Michigan, Texas, Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma
We know Tx with McCoy wasnt going to use him at QB, Mich was going after Pryor, OK has Bradford, Fla has Tebow, so not sure what other elite program you think was going to put the position in his hands.

A Senior this year.

Ummm....don't believe they do.

Bradford almost went pro this past year and definitely will this year as a junior.

Fla has Tebow
Who is also a senior.
Plenty of schools offered Shepard as a QB. Texas was really the only main one to come out and say they want him solely at WR.

Russel Shepard Commits to LSU
You have to understand the timeline.
No one knew McCoy, Bradford would have banner yrs. Where Pryor was going (Mar 19, 2008 Terrelle Pryor signs with OSU). And Tebow had just won the Heisman as a soph. So the 5 schools RS was interested in, only LSU left the QB spot really open.

I agree, I think he will be utilized as quarterback, because that is what he was
supposedly recruited to be and Les will honor
that. I bet we have Jefferson/Shepard combo this
year to see who takes off the best...
and Lee, I can't imagine where they will utilize
him.

False.
He and Trindon will form the most dynamic DE combo in the nation.
Seriously though, I think he's going to play QB primarily at LSU. He'll be all over the field, but he'll lineup under center more than he will split out, in the backfield, or in the slot. QB is the most important position on the field, so why not have our most dynamic playmaker there?

Not saying Florida was necessarily interested in him as a QB. But if they weren't, it would almost certainly not have been because Tebow would be there for Shepard's true freshman season. Hell, Tebow didn't even start his true freshman season.

Why didn't Florida have Percy Harvin at QB? He was their most dynamic playmaker. Because they were a better team with both Tebow and Harvin on the field at the same time. If Shepard doesn't play QB, it's because Miles/Crowton think LSU is a better team with both him and Jordan Jefferson on the field at the same time.

I say anything can happen. Who the hell really knows? We havent even seen this kid play. All we know is that from what we have seen of him in high school, he is a phenominal athlete. Before the season started last year how many of us thought JJ was going to be a starting QB and play as well as he did? Lets see what this kid can do and hope that he is everything that he can be.

Shepard will be the first punter to win the Heisman--
The threat of a fake punt will force the opposition to eliminate their punt returners and place all men on the line of scrimmage.

that's a pretty large exaggeration IMHO
Not really, White is the ONLY quarterback to win 4 BOWL GAMES as a starter. His record was 42-9. While he was there, his team beat georgia, georgia tech, miss. state 2 times, maryland 2 times, oklahoma, auburn and north carolina. I am not saying he is going to be the next joe montana, but while in college, he was pretty good. If sheppard was our starter and had that kind of record with wins against those teams, i will be excited

The difference is White didn't have to play all those teams in back-to-back weeks. They were spread out throughout his career. He would not have been a very good QB in the SEC. There's no way his body could have taken the pounding. And, defenses would have made him throw, which he couldn't really do. And just looking at it again, besides Georgia and Oklahoma(who they had over a month to prepare for) that list isn't all that impressive.

I think he has an excellent chance of being the starting Quarterback by 2010. Supposedly he has been impressive an is a young man who under normal circumstances would still be in HS. He's talented, a leader, and a hard worker. He's got a great chance.
