Kelly likes that bell-cow running back, but we haven't had one since clyde Edward. I think Josh Williams, Armoni Goodwin, Noah Cain are all solid backs and should be better this year. However, IMHO, Emery is the only guy with the "it" factor. this is just speculation, but it seems to me that Emery's absence from spring might have been the plan for this year. Here is what I mean - they may have intentionally lightened his course load with the intention of qualifying him this spring rather rather than risk an academic suspension. Yes, pure speculation, but he came back and seems to be dedicated to improving his position in the draft. He wants, as well as the staff, to be available for the whole season.

Running game should be better this year overall with an improved oline and expanded TE corps. WR position speaks for itself. because of some depth issues on defense, we'll need to control the game with the offense, which means more clutch RB running and catching out of the backfield.

part of the speculation on emery's status is based on my trust in coach Kelly, that he knows what he needs to do.

remember, Just my opinion.

We have 2 talented freshmen coming in so dont be suprised if they get carries.

You will see Trey Holly somewhere on the field

Josh Williams will get the “starter” carries. He’s damn good! Runs hard. Veteran who knows the playbook inside and out.
Everybody else will split the backup touches.

Is Emery getting his grades straight this Spring?

That’s the question that needs to be answered before we worry about him on the field.

Holly and Williams will be doing the work and getting the work this year. Time waits for no one.

What "it" does Emery have?

It misses protection and classes equally!

I kinda wish Emery would've just left and forced us to possibly look at someone else. Getting tired of waiting for him to do something here.

But overall, we don't have an elite RB on the roster right now unless one of the freshman emerge as one. Everyone else at best is solid and Goodwin is incredibly injury prone. He has been injured since HS like 5 years straight.

Josh Williams won me over last year. Hope he can stay healthy. He’s good.

I really don’t know what it’s gonna take for our fans to realize that Josh williams is a capable sec back . I mean an above average starter.

When you average over 5 yards a carry , don’t fumble, have good to great hands and are dynamite in pass pro , it means you’re a good back.

I don’t care how you look doing it.

He’s got the emmitt smith style to him. He’s not flashy but has good vision and runs hard. He always falls forward too.

Josh could be considered elite if he’s even better this year. I’m not sure that he’s not getting everything possible out of the ability god gave him , but I guess it’s possible that he may be even better and if so that could make him in the elite category.

Emery is the guy that’s a solid back but isn’t getting all he can from what he was born with. He could put in the work to catch the ball better and not fumble as much. He can also improve his pass pro .

If you gave Williams the physical body and god given ability of emery then you have an all American.

Emery is worth playing but it’s a logjam behind williams. Cain started to look better at the end of last year too. Goodwin was the best before injury probably. The freshman may be capable of playing early as well.

We shouldn’t have to ever have a tired back getting a handoff this whole season. We have too many similar backs to not always have a fresh one back there

Yeah,i don't know what more the guy could do to get real attention as a big part of the running back room.

I absolutely love players like josh williams. It just means more to him.

I have always been sky high on goodwin but he hasto stay healthy this year.

We have heard that same statement every year since 2019

ETA - that doesnt mean it isn't true, it only means we're saying the same thing over and over

Yeah, several things can be true at the same time.

1. Emery has the "it" factor.
2. He also has only shown it in flashes and not very often
3. We hear that every year, I've even said it, it has been overstated and probably needs to stop
4. I love it when he high-steps into the endzone
5. I hope this is his year
6. I don't expect this to be his year unless it's his year to graduate.

This is where I’m at with Emery & probably 90% of LSU Fans feel this way too. “IF” Emery was going to “Live up to the HYPE” it would have already happened. At this point JE is at best a 3rd down back that has decent hands & can occasionally break some long runs but his fumbling is still an issue which means it will likely continue to be an issue.

Bottom line is that JE hasn’t shown anything to make anyone think he’s on the verge of “figuring things out” & having a monster season as RB1. IMO the 2 Freshman RBs should get the majority of the 1st Team reps so the coaches can figure out what each has to offer at this level.

Lol. John Emery the legend that never was. Accountability is the word that needs to enter his vocabulary.
