Did he really anticipate starting these past two years?

2010
CB-Patrick Peterson
CB-Morris Claiborne
NCB-Tyrann Mathieu

2011
CB-Morris Claiborne
CB-Tharold Simon
NCB-Tyrann Mathieu

So our starting #1 the past 2 years has been the #1 overall Corner in the draft. And our nickel was a Heisman finalist last year. Where did he see himself starting?

I thought he and Jalen were the backup CBs (with Jalen being the 3rd CB). is that not the case? has the almighty David Jenkins arrived?

Jenkins is ahead of Vinson.

This may have been a good thing, just for the scholarship numbers to work. Good for both parities involved.

This isn't really a big deal if true in my opinion.

I thought Hanagriff said he was running with the safeties a while back, and yes, Jenkins and Collins are backing TM7 and Simon.

kind of off topic but does anyone think we should take a juco cb this year with simon and TM potentially leaving after this season? That would leave us with collins, jenkins, thomas, mills, raymond and incoming frosh heading into the 2013 season. Only 2 will have experience.

No, they will be able to handle it. DB is not a problem for us in the slightest.

Exactly. It's simply natural and inevitable attrition at a big time program.

I don't think it was about starting (provided this is true). it was more about seeing the field, period. it's gotta be hard when younger guys come in and you get passed on the depth chart/ shifted around. not everyone can be Ron Brooks and eventually overcome that.

I guess that IS a downside to our being stocked with so much talent.

Did he get injured or something? Vinson definitely played as a true freshman vs UF and UT

you know what's funny about the source, to me at least, Scott Kushner is an LSU fan from New Orleans, went to Tennessee, wrote for the school newspaper, and now I guess works for Tulane. I only know this because I met him during freshman orientation in Knoxville (I went to UT as well). I know cool story bro, but his name just jumped out to me. Had no idea he was working for Tulane until now.

Jenkins, Vinson and Gibson will be gone.

Vinson and Gibson sound about right, but I really doubt Jenkins leaves, since he's in line to compete for a starting spot as soon as his sophomore year assuming Simon and/or Mathieu leave with only Collins in front of him at the moment. Especially since LSU is notorious for playing several DBs.

Why would Jenkins leave if he's about to be in the 2 deep as a rFR?

Yeah, I doubt he leaves. He is in line for major playing time in the fall.

Seriously if you are a top DB in high school what reason would you have to NOT go to LSU? If you develop and become a starter you win awards and get funneled into the first round

He's probably destined for a Derrick Bryant type of career at LSU as of now.

I have a higher opinion of him that that. Comparing anyone to Bryant or Hatcher is like a slap in the face and being told you are barely mediocre.

Ronnie is a phenomenal athlete but doesn't have a great work ethic. Newman's coach went to Tulane, and those connections make these more sensible. I hope that he gives enough effort to reach his potential.

Obviously all the best Ronnie
