He had some edge tags i think cause of his size. But he played like trad-LB and star in high school. The common play your best athlete 10yds off the ball and let him run and chase guys down. A lot of these guys get exposed when they have to fit into a traditional positional box vs D-1 players.

Edge is legitimately a concern for this team. They have no one proven outside Princewill.
I don’t think ppl realize how limited Ross’s experience is. He has 5 TFL and 1.5 sacks in 2 seasons. Never started at Tennessee (although they rotate DL a ton). He had less than 100 snaps against the run last year. He’s got a legit first step and explosiveness we lacked last couple years, but there’s still a range of outcomes for him that are TBD. He could make a big jump like Princewill did last year, but it’s also possible he’s just a great athlete who’s not that good at football and never really develops into what ppl expect. Time will tell.
We need a 4 man rotation. I think Carpenter can hold down a spot and not be a liability. So to me, it comes down to Ross taking a big jump in his development, and Lamar giving us meaningful snaps and having flashes. We’re definitely way more athletic than we’ve been, but also more unproven. Also really can’t afford an injury to either of the starters.

In July Reliford started running again. He is projected to be cleared before the season ends. Possible he could return late in the season there are no more redshirt seasons

Spears and Hill were edges. Brown is very quick and athletic. I think he can be a great left end.

Idk he actually sounds pretty knowledgeable about football if you’ve ever actually listened to him.

I wish I enjoyed his shows more because he is dedicated and puts out a lot of content, I just don't enjoy listening to him.

We’re gonna need more than 4 over the season. Cobbins could help. And didn’t the South Carolina coach bring a transfer with him? Maybe not in that order. But didn’t we get an edge from USCe? Don’t remember his name or anything about him. He may not exist.

Also isn't Reliford already moving around pretty well and way ahead of schedule? Wouldn't be surprised to see him by mid-October or Bama at the latest.

Definitely will need more than 4 to make it through. Jaylen Brown is the DE from South Carolina. He’s huge, but has no production and missed a year with a torn ACL. Cobbins has yet to contribute. So to your point, there will be even more guys than I originally referenced that we’ll need to step up. Hoping the media asks Baker to expand on that position when they get a chance to talk to him soon.

Lamar cut his dreadlocks and seems to be getting leaner. Moving to edge for this season does seem to be the plan.

For as many great defenses and athletes we’ve seen at LSU how is it so rare for us to have a good edge rusher? Our season sack record is 12, that has to be the lowest in conference history. How is that possible?

It’s hard to believe. Princewill is the best pass rusher we’ve had since Arden Key. Because of that, I am 100% confident our pass rush will be significantly better than last season, regardless of you all panicking about depth.

I’m not panicking about depth so don’t know why you’d say that. Hopefully Princewlll delivers, I think there’s enough talent to be really good on D.

Hes not going to be a stand up edge player. But his versatility putting him at the DE position could actually be very beneficial in the run game. He can hold the edge a lot better than Jordan Ross can, now he might not be able to rush the passer as efficiently but that allows Baker to get creative on how he uses the defensive lineman. This is a good problem to have.
Now with Reliford hurt it does have our edge position thin. Which is why Braker got moved there. And as long as Ross and Prince stay healthy we can bring along Braker and some other young pieces and be creative in using Brown.
