Rewatching the game Jayce brown

Was kind of underwhelming at receiver . He struggled creating seperation and getting off the line vs press. It’s just game one and maybe he’ll improve throughout the season but I see no reason why he would be ahead of Phillip wright in the wr pecking order

clemson actually has an ok secondary. this keeps getting overlooked because everything else was so bad

The Clemson secondary made some plays. The pick was a really good athletic play, they also had a couple of really good pass breakups.
Their D has talent for sure and we just kinda broke their D by being more physical and the fact our D was stuffing their o in a locker.
Clemson is probably a 8-4 type team because it’s D against worse teams will have a chance to keep them in it.

It is early and could change. They will give Harris more opportunity to see if he can produce. Phillip Wright does something good when in the game, and should get more pt.

Clemson’s corners were better than LSU’s WRs on Saturday.
Hopefully the WR group can improve.
I trust Lane and Weis to scheme it up.

Clemson’s secondary is good. Ashton Hampton is a prototypical LSU style cb1 that is really good in press man. Dude is big and fast.

Hampton is def a hell of a player. Jackson Harris actually got open agaisnt him on his 32 yard gain in the 3rd. I know he had some bad drops earlier but he showed some really good flashes of being able to get open and create explosive plays

On paper their defense is pretty good. It will be interesting to see how the rest of their season pans out.

Wright’s speed should earn him more touches. He also made a nice catch on sideline from Longstreet

He struggles with drops. Even in warm ups he was dropping passes. I watched his highlights from last season and he never looks comfortable catching the ball, bobbles a lot. Needs 10,000 reps on the jug machine like Coach Brady used to do.

I don't think it's talent. We don't have a lot of length in the WR corps.
Watkins, Wilson and Brown are all under 6'. Only a few of the receivers in the 3 deep are above 6'.
I thought Herbstreit mentioned it during the game and might have mentioned that we're limited in the type of receiver Kiffin/Weiss prefer for the deep throws.

I totally agree with OP. If Wright looked better, play him. Watkins was good and the other 2 weren't. Timing can get better but just because they were a good get in the portal doesn't mean they'll produce for us. If they can't get open let's move on.

Def limited. there was almost no separation on the outside on Saturday.
The WR group isn't a strength of this team but as the game wore on, you could start to see how the scheme just gets guys open. In those situations it doesn't matter much if you have a first round receiver or an udfa which is why Lane and Glasscock don't believe in paying big money to a WR1.
I'd assume the gotta have it throws are going to Green. Leavitt used his legs on several of those plays Saturday. Clemson for whatever reason didn't spy him much which was a horrible gameplan.

Well, I know on a few of Leavitts good runs there was pressure right in his face and he eluded it and made good runs. Clemson had guys there a few times but they just straight up couldn’t get a hold of Leavitt. Leavitt can juke you and make you look silly.

Good point. If you look at the height of the 2027 WR class coming in they are all 6' 2" or taller. Lane and Wiess gonna fix that issue.

Nah it was a good play adjusting to our wr dropping it. Plenty of times where defenders miss the pick on that play.
The Clemson D will be fine against pretty much anyone else on their schedule.
