Didn’t he just sign an extension? Why do coaches do this? Doesn’t that hurt salary negotiations if they gotta pay for a big buy-out?

A lot of times it’s a favor to their current employer. Set the buyout high knowing an nfl team will pay it without blinking. At least gives the school a windfall
