Well, to be fair politicians all over the country have wasted billions (if not trillions) of dollars this year with all of the shutdowns.

Well, I would definitely expect LSU to have a STOUT d-line if Nielsen is the guy.

Let's GEAUX!

@MikeTriplett

Can confirm as

@SlaterNFL

reported that Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen will become LSU's next defensive coordinator. Maybe the Saints' biggest staff loss yet this offseason, honestly, since Nielsen has done wonders for that position group.

The Devil is in the details... but it looks like we're getting our Saint!

Kind of odd that Orgeron went with Ensminger, Linehan, and Pelini last year instead of sticking with what gave him 2019. Hopefully these hires work out

The success from 2019 was a combination of things, one of which was Joe Brady, a hungry, up and coming NFL guy. Another was Dave Aranda, an elite DC that was a young, but was successful in the Big 10. Another piece was having a once in a generation QB and elite skill players on offense.

That being said, I like the hires this year. I like all of the connections to Sean Payton's staff and the fact that they seem to be quality guys who have personal connection to O. There's some risk, but there is a lot of upside on both sides of the ball.

This is an AWESOME HIRE. Saints D Line has been incredible... also before that he was at NCST... where he was a finalist for the best assistant coach award... wanna know who he coached up at NC St.... none other than Bradley Chubb #5 overall pick in the draft that I have to assume he recruited as he was also the RECRUITING COORDINATOR there. That means the dude knows how to hit the trail. And find diamonds in the rough and coach them up. Because out of highschool Chubb was the 734th best player in the country. Turned into dominate top 5 pick. I like this a lot

He is the ideal candidate if so.
We don't lack finding talent in the defensive backfield. Having a stout DLine is what makes a defense great. If he can get us back to the 2000's where we were churning out Dlineman every draft, we will be a very successful program.

With all of our DL coming back and Maason Smith, Landon Jackson and others on the FR roster our DL is going to wreck shite in 2021. Nielsen has a ton of talent to work with and if we can get a quality LB coach this D will be nasty.

My dude, I took this from the Saints website... it’s not Wikipedia, but it seems somewhat definitely more official.

They requested permission to interview him today. Did that already happen or did O make another hire (Canada, Pelini) without interviewing?

If he has our D line dominating against the run and then rushing the passer, it's going to make the back 7 look great.

Fair question, how do Nielsen and Freeman compare? Is Freeman's experience better than Nielsen's? One could argue that Freeman is greener and riskier than Nielsen.

Part of me wants Nielsen and another part wants Pruitt

I hope we can get Pruitt as a LB coach at LSU. He probably won't get a coaching offer in a while and an on-field coaching should be better paid than an analyst job at Alabama.

I'm still pretty sure this part of me will be left unsatisfied...

Has he ever been a DC before?

Looks like he was from '08-'09.
quote:

He’s not completely inexperienced, though, when it comes to being a defensive coordinator. Nielsen was a co-defensive coordinator at Northern Illinois in 2012. He was also the defensive coordinator at Central Connecticut State from 2008-2009.

Seems like a long stint between then and now. Wonder why he hasn't had a coordinator job since then. Also, you would have to assume that he called plays then too.
