You realize that Nielsen might be the best DL coach in the nfl right?

He very well could be. Dude is damn good.

He's very good at developing players.

First let me say that I have been watching the saints all my life. I hate for the team that Brees has played his last game and despite what some will say I don’t have much faith in the saints present situation with returning qb s. I say all of this to make a point that it seems to me that if this contract has any wiggle room for Nielsen to leave and even if it does not that the saints are about to launch a very negative public relations event at a bad time. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Saints on Sunday.

hiring a a guy without being a coordinator (im not counting 13 years ago at northwest south central carolina) is an immediate risk reward situation.

no way you can call that amazing.

now, it might BECOME amazing, but im very shocked LSU would hire a pretty dang unproven DC. ESPECIALLY that side of the ball given our history and money

No t me. Being a DC is not hard. It's just that most coaches are conventional and, while not really stupid, not particularly smart.

If LSU's defensive coaching staff assigned defensive looks and play calls, during game week, to different down and distances and offensive personnel groups, the defensive calls could be made by a random number generator. The trick is just to be unpredictable.

A smart, imaginative coach who knows defensive schemes will be a good DC.

key point...maybe he does, maybe he doesnt. there's very little on job experience to prove that he does. So O is putting 100% reliability in the interview process.

maybe he's right
