CFB considering moving 2020 season to Spring 2021
There is a possibility that the virus might return as COVID-20 in the fall. All sport programs are still in limbo because of no vaccine is available.

Alex Box / Death Valley double header

I see a big group of draft eligible players sitting out a spring college football season.

2021 season not starting until November seems excessive.
imagine playing in Minnesota in January
Or in Tiger Stadium or the swamp in May.

Exactly! We’d all like it to just be like normal, but nothing is normal right now. So if we can salvage the cfb season this way without playing less games, then I’m all in on this. Would people really rather the season just not be played over just delaying the season a bit?

Next February will be corona szn 2.0

Football in February and March would be awesome. Crawfish at tailgates!! (I did do this at a November tailgate once
)

So we could have our first football/baseball doubleheader.

They are going to play the season somehow
This will probably lead to at least a delayed start for the second 2021 season as well. I can't imagine you are going to have a team play in June NC and then turn around and expect them to play in September

This is what you are looking for, Sammy
quote:
cancel all OOC games
-cancel all bowl games except the playoff
-make a 1 year exception for an 8 or 16 team playoff
-push back conference schedule into December & play all games in consecutive weeks leading up until playoff. No bye weeks
LSU’s schedule could look something like this.
Aug 24 (1st day of school) would start a condensed 5week conditioning program leading up to...
Oct 1st preseason practice
Oct 31 OM
Nov 7 FL
Nov 14 Ark
Nov 21 Miss St
Nov 28 Bama
Dec 5 SC
Dec 12 Aub
Dec 19 A&M
Dec 26th conf championship games
January 2nd Semi playoff
January 11th CFB champ
If you go to 8 or 16, you push these down into late January

Are people suggesting that for 2020 or 2021 with a late start in 2020?
Its going to dick over a LOT of small schools who rely on those rent-a-win games for most of their operating budgets.

I definitely do, but who gets to decide this?
I mean its clearly not a democracy, or do the big schools push for this and buy out the smaller schools contracts?
Realistically I think we could do a Spring Schedule in spring 2021, and then a delayed schedule in 2021 (start in October) and then be back on track by 2022.

we already do it in September (sometimes late August), that’s got to be worse than May.

The university presidents would decide, in close consultation with their ADs I’m sure as it relates to CFB.
I’m interested to see how it plays out...while I personally think it would absolutely be fine/safe to play football and have crowds in the fall, my guess is most colleges will do online classes fall 2020 and CFB will be a spring kickoff...just seems to me that’s the direction this thing is headed.
Even after businesses/states begin opening back up, There’s still going to be a lot of political/social pressure against large gatherings for the next 3-6+ months IMO. Not saying the pressure is necessarily warranted, it just is what it is, and I think most University Presidents will cave to that pressure while still acknowledging the cash cow and making sure the season is played.

Lol no. How’s the athletic dept making money without ticket sales? Sure tv contracts, but that’s not enough.

If the season is played in the spring, what incentive will be there for players that will be high draft picks to play then?

at least you wont have the 100+ heat index temps
