Wise move by Jay last year, as any concerns were quickly laid to rest. This season is crashing, but one of the few joys is witnessing Milam's magic at short- he will go down as one of the best defensive shortstops in LSU history.

Amazing stats with only five errors at SS over the entire 2025 season. And just one error this season in 145 chances, producing a .993 fielding percentage. Also #1 in the nation in Defensive Runs Saved this season (10.5).

It's been a pleasure to watch Monster's career as a Tiger. If he leaves after this year, his glove will be sorely missed.

I had the year and player wrong. I remember wanting to swap a starting ss with MIlam as a Fresh. It must have been Braswell. I remember people were concerned about Milam's range.

He's been awesome.

That would have been tough.

Milam wasn’t on the 2023 team.

Some were concerned. In 2024 I wanted Milam to be moved to SS and have Braswell at 2B. Some people though that was a ridiculous thing to suggest.

I just thought about what I said and came back to correct.

Yeah, my mistake. I just remember wanting him to start at SS over someone. I suppose it was Braswell.

I found it.

DV'ed to hell for even suggesting it. Good ish.

It was the arm. Everybody said he could field great but he wouldn’t have the arm to play SS. Meanwhile brazzy couldn’t field a beach ball and we had a stud scooping everything near 2nd base.

And the one error he was given wasn’t the best throw to second but still should have been caught by Dardar.

Monster is an absolute defensive wizard at short. Watching him and Dickinson vacuum up everything in the middle infield last year was a joy and I was able to thoroughly enjoy being there to witness it all unfold. Glad he chose to put on the purple and gold. A true Tiger legend in the field.

No. I honestly don’t remember any concerns about it.

He was outstanding at 2B and projected well as a SS. By the end of his freshman year, Jay mentioned that he would be the SS the following season. He was clearly the best option at SS to begin last season before his first game at SS. He also had a ton of HS experience at the position.

Looks like you made several remarks that were worth down voting. No reason to think it was about a move to SS the following season.

I was definitely unsure, and I think he’s the best defensive SS LSU has ever had.

Just this past Sunday I watch Milam throw runners out “in the shift” from 3rd, SS, 2nd, and shallow right field…..all in 1 game! “But Jay’s shifts never work” LOL

He’s the only player on this team that is built for the shift. It definitely works when you have the players.

For instance, Dardar can’t field a ball at 2B. He isn’t all of a sudden going to be able to handle balls in unfamiliar spots on the infield.
