You're right. My bad, It's Friday/Saturday starts for the regional, not Thursday/Friday.

Need to cut it to 12. They should do the same for basketball.

There’s no chance this doesn’t significantly hurt attendance.

As someone who attends the SEC Ty most years, I like the new format. I especially hope LSU can end up in the top 4 and not start til Thursday or Friday. Single elim is the way to go.

I like it too. Gives every team a shot at postseason like in basketball while also keeping the number of games each team has to play reasonable.

I don't hate it. Teams 13-15 may be doing some last minute jockeying for getting into the tournament. They have a big uphill battle, having to play 5 games. Top 4 get rewarded by not having to play more than 3. In a league that can get 13-14 teams in, I'm ok with more than 12 making the tournament.
To add, seeds #1-12 are all in the RPI Top 30

Yeah #16 will never belong in the postseason, but this format is clearly to give #13 or #14 a shot

Sooooo, if you want to go ahead and make reservations to attend, Thursday would be the best bet? Or its a coin toss between thursday and friday?

Friday/Saturday starts doesn't begin until the Super Regional round.

Which I personally find dumb. Though I know that may not be the majority opinion.

I disagree. I like the new format. I think 12 was dumb when he had 14 teams. I mean what’s the point of leaving just two out. Same now that there’s 16 teams. Why leave out just 4? Either let the whole conference play or cut it down to 8 teams imo.

Well if #13 is worthy of one of the last at-large bids, it’s in the conference’s interest (if not responsibility) to give them the best chance to earn it. Particularly when their at-large competition is almost certainly playing over that weekend

I’d argue 12 is no more inherently a better number than 8. Or 4. At this point with how loaded SEC teams are getting the tournament in its present form almost primarily exists to give borderline teams opportunities to cement their bids. It’s not the prize it once was and winning it is more lagniappe. It’s arguably getting closer to a chore to some teams who would rather focus on getting ready for the following weekend

I probably have a better chance at winning the power ball........ And I've never bought a power ball ticket in my life.

Mizzou hasn't won a single game.

South Carolina hasn't won the third game of a series in 7 tries.

Mississippi State has already fired their coach.

The conference is doing this because they think it will get them more teams into the NCAA Tournament and make it more money.

Conference tournaments, in every sport, have long been unnecessary "for profit" ventures. Even the SEC championship football game. That said, I don't know if I'd agree......

How does having all 16 teams reduce the fan experience? .

They're reducing the incentive to travel to the tournament by increasing the number of teams that will only be there for 1 day.

But they will at least be there. There will only definitely be 4 teams that will only be there for 1 day (the 4 that lose day 1). That's the same number of teams that wouldn't be there at all in a 12 team format. If chalk holds, each of the remaining teams will play at least two days, with the Champ and Runner-up playing three.

So, yes, you would have more teams there but only for one day, but you also aren't leaving a quarter of the conference out entirely. More State and South Carolina fans will probably travel for a one game tourney appearance than would travel for a tourney without their teams at all.

Mizzou, of course, is a special case. You might get more Mizzou fans at the tournament if they didn't have to watch their team play. But you are also likely to get at least a few general baseball fans there for their games simply out of morbid curiosity.

Same is true for the conference as a whole.
