LEAD OFF!

Actually, Danny Higgins was the lead off hitter in 1997.
Nice to see Mike Koener get props though, as for my opinion, he was tool for tool one of the best to ever play for LSU. He's my pick for CF on the All Skip Bertman Team, and I'm the biggest Armando Rios fan out there.

I'm pretty sure it was -5. They do use -3 now though.

Wasn't just the bats though. Alabama finished second with 160 but everyone else was way behind. Skip recruited a wrecking crew and beefed them up on muscle milk and crazy arse wt. training. Our numbers declined rapidly after that year but we were still among the national leaders pretty much every year until Skip left.

Anyone know the RBI total for that 97 season
632 RBI in '97.

Larson had 118 of those and that didn't lead the nation. Berkman had near 130 I believe.

Just a summary of the weird homerun numbers from the '97 team:

If you went to an LSU game that year, you saw a homerun. That's because LSU hit a homerun in EVERY GAME IT PLAYED in '97.

Every single starter for the chapmionship game had double digit homerun totals.

The single season homerun record was set that by year by LSU at 188 HRs.(as previously stated)

Also, everyone that had an official at-bat that year had at least 1 HR.

Creatine + Juiced Bats = Unbreakable Records.......and Unfair Comparisons. I'd like to see that team with these bats, or this team with those bats.

The barrel was 2 3/4" compared to 2 5/8" now.
Also -5 compared to -3 now.

false.

Only 2 SEC teams have ever won the CWS. Guess how many teams have won it from the Pac-10

What does that have to do with how good they are year to year? We get just as many teams in as they do...

And to answer your question: I think it's 5 (Stanford, Oregon State, USC, Arizona, Arizona State)

FWIW: I'd love to get me one of them big barrel bats.

9 guys on that 97 team had double digit home runs. That's rediculous.

Everyone with an official at bat that year had a home run.
