Reasons why I think we win

Physical SEC football OL and DL - I know we need to see the OL do it but only time will help with that

DL - front 7 of LSU is enough for me to pick LSU to win this game

Passing game - another need to see but I think we will see it / this is the Tiger team that will pass to set-up the running game

QB play - another need to see - Joe wins the QB job and gives LSU what it needs with leadership and talent

I expect to see a top 5 D open against Miami and like I said - this one point should be enough to win the game - a passing game with good balance with a rushing attack gives LSU a 17 point win.

17 point win?? Come on, you need to temper the expectations a little bit and just hope for a win period. Miami is no slouch and can easily beat us by 17 if things don't go right.

Great post, Cliff. You're getting much better at this IMO and you continue to get me slightly more enthusiastic with stiff like this. I'm glad you decided not to wait until the season starts to post again.

the front seven on defense is why LSU wins the game. I really don't see them being able to do to much on offense. Rozier isn't great with no pressure Id imagine he will be hit and hit often in this game. I like LSU to win this game by 10 or so

I think Miami will have a very hard time in the first game scoring on this D. It's June 22 and all I can say is what I think will happen. Like all the talking heads seeing LSU losing 5 to 6 games. They don't know but this is what they think. LSU will not be picked by many to beat Miami.

After LSU beats Miami things will change

17 points is what I see based on Miami not scoring much at all

something like 24 to 6 / 31 to 6 / 21 to 6

Maybe Miami scores 13 but not much more than that

Miami’s D will be no slouch this year. They have 2 or 3 projected first rounders.

This. The talent level isn’t even really close.

The 15 and 16 classes for UM weren’t even top 20, 17 was #12. This incoming class was #8.

Richt is obviously doing a great job turning them around but that program just isn’t on our level yet.

The one clear advantage they may have had would have been QB but with Burrow on board it actually makes Rozier look much more pedestrian, which is really what he is.

If they beat LSU it is because Richt and his staff outcoached O and our staff and had them better prepared. It is really that simple.

Miami is a borderline top 10 team right now based on an inflated year in which they surprised people with their record but really didn’t beat anyone of note.

They ran the table to 8-0 before they played a single ranked team then beat a decent Virginia Tech team and an always overrated Notre Dame team that also hadn’t beaten anyone else.

They then caved under the pressure and lost to a bad Pitt team and got annihilated by Clemson and lost their bowl game in their home stadium, albeit to a good Wisconsin team, to finish the year on a three game slide.

They are a program on the upswing with a good coach and a lot of excitement around them which always makes a team dangerous, but they are not as talented or nearly as deep as our roster.

If our coaches do their jobs as well as I’m sure Miami’s will, this should be a very exciting start to the season for LSU.

I always love these big matchups early on. It usually brings out the ultimate character of the teams in question right off the bat.

If O can’t get this team energized, focused, and ready in fall camp with The U on the schedule for a prime time opening night, he isn’t who we hoped he was.

We really don’t know what to expect. There will be new faces on both sides of the ball and no proven play makers on Offense. We have to score to win. We may be good or we may end up really bad. Time will tell.

Which beat us, before we lost all of our offensive production.

Yeah, it was a bad loss to an overrated team. No question

I just don’t see how anyone could predict a big win for us against Miami. Their O may not be great, but their D should be. Our O is a big ?, but our D should be elite. If anything, I see this being a 10-7/14-10 type of game.

Yeah, the issue with this team is no one knows what to expect. They could win or lose by 3 touchdowns and neither would really be a surprise. That's why I continue to say that the overreaction after this one game will be beyond epic.

Yeah I’m not predicting a “big” win. Just saying it’s a game we should find a way to win if the team is ready.

Two good defenses but I think ours will be better. Can’t see how they do much against our front seven and Aranda should bottle up Rozier the way he did to Lamar Jackson.

Ensminger, Burrow, and our WRs will be a huge mystery to their D with literally no film to break down which I think gives us a major advantage.

I expect a very good game plan from E and think Burrow seems like the type of player to thrive on this stage and big game atmosphere.

The 6 might be right.

If we score more than 17 I will be surprised.

TigerL - you are one of the main reasons I didn't give up on the Rant. This is what I know - if you are coming to the Rant in June to talk football you care! My son is a major anti-CEO guy. I get it but right now CEO is my coach. I will give him credit for what I see him doing right. Getting 4 starters from other schools - major get. Building up the OL and DL - major get! Giving Aranda a raise and getting him signed up with a extension - major get!

Canada - blew it
Steve E - we shall see

We start out with heavy D and passing game

Not major D and protect the ball - I am happy

I believe we all should. IMO, the rational posters simply look for consistency in the discussion and not to talk out of both sides of your mouth.

this

If this happens and why would it not LSU wins with a very good QB dying to kill it on national TV as all his old OSU coaches watch.

Joe throws for 280 plus we win by 17

I am as skeptical as they come about CEO and have had very low expectations of this upcoming season for awhile..

That said.. When I sit and think about it, on paper at least - this team should be much better than the "outsiders" are suggesting. A lot of unknowns but if we get solid OL play, no injuries in the secondary, and decent RB production there is no reason this team shouldn't win at least 9 games. The WR group is as deep as it's been in a long time - and that should hopefully take some of the pressure off the unknowns at running back.

I know those are some big question marks but I'm starting to be a bit more hopeful. I wouldn't go so far as to say a 17 point win - but I think we win for sure.
