- LSU Athletics has the best retirement plan in NCAA sports with no performance penalty.

I dislike Ole Miss very much, but…

So Baton Rouge was an upgrade?

Many people are overlooking the timing of “you have to take it when it is available.”

I am sure every coach who is not in their last planned job has a short list of places they would go if the opportunity presented itself. I would have to say LSU was on Lane’s list based on info from Nick and Ed. You cant just sit back and say I will go for it next year.

I might add that in hindsight I have to believe Verge knew LK was likely based on “unofficial” contacts like Nick and Ed.

He left what he built there for actual reasons he will never disclose. He didnt like some things done to him got fed up and gave them the bird.

When LSU opened it was a chance to leave where he was not happy.

One of many reason ole piss sucks is although Oxford is a safe place and there is 25k people there but nothing to do.

I was actually really surprised we got him.
If Ole Miss matched the offer then it wasn't money..
He'd have less pressure there. And he bought a TON of slack with the 2025 season. They were in a good position for 2026 and beyond.
Overall, I'd guess that better facilities, recruiting, and sustained NIL funds probably played small parts..

I don't know why, but I tend to believe the narrative about Saban pushing him this direction was the biggest factor.

Nobody takes a job in Baton Rouge unless they are being paid way more than their prior job.

Even LSU doesn’t think LSU is great anymore. It’s just as good as Ole Miss according to this thread. Wow, Brian Kelly really beat the will out of LSU.

actually isn't a bad place. nice little southern town in my opinion.

frick that place. It may have been fine 10+ years ago. Now it’s an insanely pretentious, over-priced and extremely overrated place to spend any time if you aren’t an Ole Myth sycophant.

There’s a few things you can correct here in my opinion. First off, playing in and winning a national title are two completely different things. Michigan has played for 8 nattys in basketball and won 2. Also, ask TCU about playing on the title game and winning it. Ole Miss would have been beaten down just like Miami was in that game. Secondly, yes on average, Louisiana produces more NFL talent than Mississippi. We also only have us as the big instate school. LSU can and will spend to keep our instate talent home. With a better scouting department we should hit a lot more than we miss on instate prospects. Thirdly, a lot of those 3 stars that LSU gets at will from instate can grow into NFL players and college stars. LSU WILL spend the money to keep them. It’s more of a mathematical game for Kiffin. He seems to have a VERY analytical mind and a good grasp of mathematics and how it can correlates to sports (football). So, all things equal he will have a higher quality of player then he would have had at Ole Miss. For a coach who plays the numbers game this is a step up and the logical progression (Nick Saban) to reach the top of the mountain.
