Only LSU could make a legend out of a player who not only hasn’t played a down for us...but couldn’t win the starting job for the team he’s transferring from.

A man with a $3.5 mil/year salary to protect and who is under increased scrutiny has gone out of his way to recruit Burrow even at the risk of alienating the other QBs on campus.

Serious question. Not taking either side, just want to know what we are hoping for in him.

Damn good question lol

Coached by a 3x national championship coach vs coached by a shrimp boat captain. A big difference from what we currently have.

- A little experience in college
- Neck and neck with what should be a great QB in Haskins
- tOSU fans speak highly of him, even AFTEr he announced he was leaving <---- big one
- Several tOSU fans wanted him to play over JT Barrett
- Coaches son and knows the game well
- All the attributes are there, has the size, accuracy, talent, intelligence etc...
- Made for a shotgun RPO offense which we're moving to
- Developed by a coaching staff who knows how to get a lot out of QBs

Basically just a much better overall package than anyone we currently have.

WITH very little playing experience

You can say the same about every high school recruit that we pursue.
When you have the opportunity to get the “best player” at any position, you go after him.
Can anybody tell me for sure that any high school QB is better than Joe Burrow?
Can anybody tell me that any QB on our team now is better than Joe Burrow?

The biggest thing is that he is going into his fourth season of college football and spent the previous 3 under a HC who has a history of coaching teams with good QB play at 3 different schools (Utah, Florida, OSU). LSU right now has 3 guys on the roster.

4 years of college yes, but not necessarily "experienced"

Meyer is a dual threat developer

quote:

All four guys (including Burrow) are unknowns. But it's clear that the LSU staff is concerned that none of the 3 guys already on the roster can accomplish what they want to get done on offense. Thus, they are willing to take a chance on the unknown who has more experience (albeit not much more) than the other three AND the physical traits they covet.

So you go balls to the wall to add another unknown. This is not a good grad transfer market. If you cant find a guy with significant playing experience, you have to develop what you have.

We also went after Haskins, but really didn’t have a shot.
In my opinion, this would be a huge get for LSU and could help with future QB recruits.

The development is less important than the innate characteristics he possesses that Meyer identifies at the high school level.

Call it the "it" factor.

Hurts, Fromm, Eason, Tua were not developed as much as they were identified

Think about it. How long do these guys have in their respective systems before they are playing for NCs.

Meyer had a 3rd stringer beat AL in the semis, right? How much had he even seen the field before that game?

Nobody knows anything but nobody here is standing out so why not try for greatness another way?

So it's not that we know Burrow is good, it's just that we don't have the guy yet and he comes well recommended - let's bring him in to compete against the other 3. We cannot let these WRs and this defense go to waste behind poor QB play.

This is probably the most reasonable stance on the issue I've seen

We have 3. None of them have made a case to be able to start. If you have 3 you don't have 1.
