I know you guys are just now getting a taste of what it’s like to be consistently good in football, but here’s a lesson- hanging onto guys like O and Miles doesn’t keep you there. It drags you down, and once the tide turns on a coach, it can happen very fast. Miles was cut a year too late and we can’t make the same mistake with O, because he may do even more damage.

The past does not matter. Previous accomplishments don’t matter. When it gets to this point, you move on. Period. Or you become mediocre and irrelevant.

That doesn't change. You are paying him to coach...or paying him not to coach. And, there's plenty of valid speculation that the buyout won't be as big as is on paper.

I want him gone. But to fire tomorrow would be a purely emotional decision

You aren’t hiring anyone until December at the earliest

I dug up some miles firing articles.

Decision was made almost right after the game and he was informed Sunday morning

We can all chill on the refresh button. Woody is gonna let this thing rot at least another week. Now, after we get drummed by Florida in front of 40k in Tiger stadium?

frick that. We will lose more money in the long run hanging onto him in recruiting and portal damage than if we just negotiate a buyout and move right now.

OP just asked for a reason and that was one reason I could think of.

As for your point, recruiting won't stabilize until the new hire is made and I really don't think the timing of Orgeron's dismissal will impact who enters the portal.

With nothing to play for a second year in a row, I expect the roster attrition to be significant in the second half of the season regardless if Orgeron is still there or not. I don't see Mickey Joseph or Steve Ensminger stepping in and magically changing the culture.

Assuming the next HC is working the rest of the season, it would be a long time of uncertainty until we announce his replacement.

Yea I mean you can’t hire someone right now

And on the recruiting front, it’s going to be messy either way. But at least if he’s still employed their can be some semblance of communication still there until a new guy can take over

Are you this naive? A real AD (which we didn’t have last time) will be having back channel conversations with every agent in the biz. He will have a plan in place to move as soon as the season is over. You really can’t do that and risk it leaking out with O still employed. Remember the Tubby/Petrino scandal that got an AD and university president fired?

And please tell me how keeping O does anything to stabilize recruiting going into early signing? With him gone, a new coach will know where we stand and who he needs to focus on to keep, and how much we will need to rely on the portal.

Keeping O until the A&M game doesn’t help any of this. None of this has anything to do with emotion, either.

Patience. Don’t say anything but give hm your support publicly. Let him continue to hang himself.

You know, that's an excellent pernt. Even if Woody's team has been working on a "fire for cause" case for months, he won't be ready to just drop it Monday morning. In the meantime, let O lose a couple more games. He was going to anyway.

I’d like to see tomorrow’s shite show of a press conference. But I admit that it’s for my own entertainment. Don’t see how it benefits the program

I didn’t say a move would stabilize either. It will let you know where you stand with recruits. They will have time to get used to the fact that O is gone and a new staff is coming in. Please tell me how him lane duck recruiting is going to help in any way, shape or form? It’s liable to do more harm than good.

As for the portal, an interim will do what they are told and you can bet they will be told to play younger players. If they are getting on the field and have a chance to make plays, they are more likely to stay than if they are riding the pine on a losing team playing out the string under a lame duck.

There is just nothing good here about O losing the team and running it into the ground. Make the move now and salvage what you can knowing that we are going in a new direction. We’ve seen the players respond positively to this the last two times it was done. Im not saying it’s a great alternative, but it’s the better of the two by far.

None. The longer he stays the more damage will be done. The old school thinking of do it after the season won’t work anymore… early signing day for one reason.

The only reason would be to make him stay on the sidelines and witness the upcoming beatdowns. Like when a dog has an accident and you rub its nose in it.

Doesn’t matter. New coach can’t recruit in that position. It’s irrelevant

You think a whole staff is going to keep recruiting if you fire the coach tomorrow when they all know they won’t be there?

I don’t know how much they can keep together but it would certainly be easier if everything remains in place for the next few weeks
