Didn’t he do it because his daddy said “I don’t want to work anymore?”

Back before NIL this would have been the correct answer or it was close to home blah, blah, blah. Now it just sounds disingenuous. I’m sure his family/agent told him to say this but nobody will believe a word of it.

You’ve got fans here getting emotional in a negative way. It’s irrational but that’s what fans do.

In Michigan, you get the flip side of the coin. The fans there will believe this wholeheartedly. They will love him for this.

Personally, I don’t understand the need to fool myself. The players on LSU are here because of money, too.

I will root against Underwood because he isn’t an LSU tiger. But it has nothing to do with us getting outbid. The kid did what he thought was in his best interest.

Definitely has nothing to do with Brian Kelly botching another promising season. Definitely has nothing to do with the 30 point bama beat down at home. I’m sure he wasn’t even watching that game. I mean how could he not want to come play in Sloans high powered offense It has to be the money!!!

Education? Now that’s a new one. No classes involved here. It’s all about money, period.

Who cares? Let it go. The kid signed with the biggest university in his home state. Why are some LSU fans still talking about this kid? I know that some people get caught up in recruiting and who verbally commits but until they actually sign, a verbal commitment does not mean anything.

I think most are just pointing out the absurdity of the "reason" he flipped schools after nearly a year of saying he would attend LSU. The academic standing of Michigan vs. LSU was the same 2, 3, 20 years ago. It's not like two weeks before signing day he looked at a pamphlet and realized "Wow, I didn't know Michigan was rated so highly from an academic standpoint." He flipped because Michigan donors/supporters gave him a huge NIL deal. There nothing wrong with that. It's the marketplace of college football. But don't contribute to some puff piece to try to convince people the decision had nothing to do with money. The general public isn't that dumb.

LSU fans are more obsessed with coaches ( Wade) or players (Underwood) who don't coach or play for LSU, than current coaches or players for LSU.

I'm not quite sure how Wade is involved in this conversation, but I would venture to guess any "obsession" with him would be because he actually won at LSU vs the current coach who is 17-33 (.340) vs. major conf. opponents in his LSU career.

No shite the article is a puff piece. Lol. What is he supposed to say? I signed with Michigan bc they paid more money. Everyone knew once that offer was made, he was going to go there. LSU fans act like it is the biggest surprise.

Let's see...which of these things changed during the time that Underwood was "100% committed to LSU"?

-the quality of Michigan's academics
Or
-the amount of $ Michigan offered????

I have no problem with Underwood bolting for the money. It's hard to blame someone for leaving one job for another one due to an enormous pay raise.

It's annoying to see entire articles devoted to obscuring the reason Underwood dumped LSU.

These arguments don't work when Michigan's offense was so much worse.

Kid and his family are clowns. This kind of proves it. Not a soul is believing this, UM was always a top academic school, odd that he's trying to justify it like this. Guess it's better than saying i flipped for the $$$$$$

Why not? That is the reality of college football today and EVERY fan is aware of it. There is no reason to insult everyone's intelligence by suggesting the basis for his decision was anything but money (and a bit of staying in his home state). No one blames him.

I don't think anyone is "surprised" he accepted a bigger payday. Disappointed? Sure. But not surprised.

Obviously he is full of it BUT on what he actually said, the statement itself is not wrong.

Can't really compare an LSU education to a Mee-chigan education. Sorry.

More evidence he didn't get to do what he really wanted to do and is continuing to try and justify it in his mind and heart.

If we learned anything during his recruiting it’s that he’s a sharp guy that knows the right things to say regardless of truth

the kid is screwed. expectations are way too high for a high school kid that everyone has deemed as the 2nd messiah

There are 10.5 million reasons why he flipped to Michigan and not one of those reasons has to do with education.
