How can you put a QB (J. Russell) that played on a very talented team and never won a championship in with QB's that won championships. It's like an IQ test: Which one does not belong in the series?

"On the eve of Super Bowl XLII New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in discussing his choices for the greatest quarterbacks of all time, described Jones as the best "pure passer" he ever saw."

Peyton Manning won nothing while playing four years at Tennessee.

Tee Martin came in the exact year after Manning left and won the SEC Championship and National Championship in his very first year as a starter.

Which one was the better QB?

Not only have your posting privileges been permanently revoked, but you are on thin ice for capital punishment.

i know the ones mentioned are great, but they're before my time except for JR. Mine would have to be:

1) Rohan
2) Jamarcus
3) Mauck
4) Tyler
5) Flynn

hard to be good when the team wont block or catch passes for a qb

That's cuz the Booty's were assholes. They were not favorites of their teammates.

Since there are (imo) two relevant understandings of what top 5 means in reference to football players, I'll make two quick lists with a good bit of overlap (both lists heavily influenced by my lack of in depth knowledge pre-early '70s).

Top 5 QBs that helped their teams succeed:

1. JaMarcus Russell
2. Tommy Hodson
3. Bert Jones
4. Matt Mauck
5. Herb Tyler

Top 5 favorite/most fun to watch:

1. Herb Tyler
2. Tommy Hodson
3. JaMarcus Russell
4. Rohan Davey
5. Matt Mauck

I always thought it odd how Nall could have been an NFL backup for a few yrs in Green Bay
Oddly enough, it turns out that it probably was exactly what it seemed: he was about 4th or 5th out of a collection of 5 QBs (Davey, Booty, Nall, Mauck, Randall) who were all just barely good enough to get NFL attention but not good enough to have real success. It is very strange that a team with 5 scholarship QBs on the roster could manage to have all 5 be NFL-caliber players without having a single "good NFL"-caliber QB among them.

shame he got injured and then Herb took over for the bowl game.
I am 100% behind your argument that Howard is underappreciated, but it is far, far from a shame that Herb Tyler got to play that bowl game. Herb Tyler is among the brightest silver linings to every appear in the cloud of a college football player injury.

I - 59 tiger you probably are a racist. Why would anyboby make such a ridiculous statement.
Probably because just about every poster who has made the claim that JaMarcus was not the best LSU QB in the last quarter century (at least) has been called a racist by at least one other poster on this board. As well as the fact that the general assertion has been made repeatedly that the only possible reason anyone could think that [insert white LSU QB of the last quarter century] was better than JaMarcus is racism.

Once things like that get tossed around enough, they tend to (appropriately) become the punchlines they should have been the first time they appeared.

I don't know how spoiled you think LSU fans are supposed to have become over the last decade or so, but there is no team anywhere at any time for whom an SEC Championship is "nothing".
