I think most here are caught up in the names. Mingo was doubled and tripled last season. Sam had about 8 sacks and I can remember 2 were the QB just falling and him being rewarded in the books with the sack.

I can remember when people thought we would never see a DT do what Dunbar and Booger McFarland did......the comes Glenn Dorsey, Lavalais, Kyle Williams, Nevis.
I can remember Greg Jackson being a stud as a FS.....then came Chad Jones and LaRon.

This team recruits great athletes and the coaching is at the top level. We did not know who would run the ball the last 2-3 years. A couple years ago, RBs were suspended then we all found out that Kenny Hilliard was a stud. Then last season, we saw J. Hill dominate with no prior snaps. Mingo and Sam were great ambassadors for LSU, but it was a reason Lavar Edwards played so much and Sam didn't start 3 games. So to say that the "production" could be better, it is not a stretch.

Rasco played as true freshman. Something neither Mingo or Montgomery did. Even more impressive considering that he played during a time we had Sam, Mingo, Ken Adams, Edwards, and Aghayere.

Obviously Brick Haley thought a lot of him to give him playing time over experienced upper classman

People really underestimated the impact Brockers had on entire line both in '11 and last year in his absence. Our DTs just did not command the attention he did.

Time will tell. Montgomery was very very over rated. Mongo valued about right but neither the take over a game type impact that a lot think they were.

This still doesn't equate into Rasco/Hunter being better than Sam/Mingo from day 1. Why can't we just take a chill on jumping to conclusions like this. Especially when fall camp hasn't started yet.

To be fair, I think modern day offensive schemes have somewhat decreased the impact DE can have with respect to taking over a game. Quick passing games, mobile QBs that can also pass effectively. Would rather studs in every other position on my defense. DE, just find someone who can stand ground against the run and is intelligent and disciplined enough to keep contain. But what do I know.

No but it could equal them having a better season than Sam/Mingo last year.

Sam redshirted then got hurt. What meaningful snaps did he play?

Exactly. My opinion, is that we will be improved this year at this spot and that Hunter is going to be a superstar.

my goodness fans were spoiled with Mingo and Monty

These two were good, but they weren't special. They disappeared in key moments of the game when the defense needed pressure on the QB. I respect them because they contributed to the Tigers, but they were more hype than substance. Lavar Edwards made more game changing during his career than these two.

I think God given talent no way, but Mingo and Sam vanished in some games. Took way to many plays off.

Mingo and Montgomery sadly did not prove anything on the field themselves and Sam admitted taking plays off. Therefore, I think we are upgraded this year and with the young pups.

For the guy who said the announcers praised mingo/Montg--

Not much. The only D linemen that was consistently double teamed was Bennie Logan.

I hope your even close on your prediction, but the M&M bros were stout. I know Rasco is going to play like a wildman. All I know of Hunter is what he did at WM-where he ruled.

A better question is depth on the DL.

OP is insane. Mingo is one of the best athletes to come through the LSU program.
