re: Billy Cannon versus Leonard Fournette

The one quote and comparison that is getting to me is when people say LF is a fast Adrian Peterson. Do some of you only watch LSU and know LSU players? Do you realize AP ran a 4.3 at the combine and has been killing the NFL since his first pre - season game? LF is a rare back but let's not forget how dominant some of the other running backs he's being compared to were.

Let's all pray it is over. He needs 20+ throws this week and the next 2.

Maybe it shouldn't be said, but is it off? KT has maybe one ball completed on him this year. One ball at Miss St he dove for and could have picked. And yesterday they tried once and J. Adams picked it. The secondary as a whole is balling.

I remember when Curtis played St. Aug/Fournette - Young had 30 tackles in the game. Not sure what LSU could have missed with this guy? Please fact check me.
It has been reported that Chavis did not like him. Said he was too big. We all know Chavis likes small, fast LBs. But, it is no secret why Young went to UCLA. People were asking about this kid for a year and why LSU was not showing interest in him, and it came out that Chavis was not interested.

So you are talking about the same coach who preferred DJ Welter? Ok.....

I am not sure about the being groomed comment. He actually may have been starting next to Beckwith this season. Either at Strong or Weakside, then move to MLB after Beckwith leaves. He is so talented and may be just as fast as Debo but is 240lbs. Huge miss by Chavis and one of his many dumb personnel decisions. What about Melvin Jones? He would be a stud but he was too big and was moved to full back. He was more athletic then Beckwith coming out of HS. Remember he also didn't think Beckwith was good enough and moved him to DE.

Agree with you. My issues are with Baylor and UCLA. Both are using new QBs and UCLA may be starting a true freshman. But Mich St has a very good senior QB and they have been on the championship doorstep for a few years now. USC also has a very good Junior/Senior QB. And as for Oregon, it is their system. They have been a top 5-10 school for 5-8 years and it didn't matter who played QB. And they just got grad xfer from Eastern Washington who ran an offense like this.

Great point for perspective. Also to add to that, LSU practiced together 10 days prior to going over there. That is a very, very short time to go play against pros who have continuity with the rules and LSU having 3 new freshmen who play huge minutes. I feel it was a great showing and will pay dividends down the road.

Say what you want but I have not seen numbers of a 44 inch vert. And as I said and tried to make clear....I am not talking about one guy with a 50 inch vert and the other with a 20 inch vert. Very similar but from my eye Sampson is more athletic. And as to the shooting....yes Sampson had times when he was, but did you see every game? Also he shot about 500 shots a day between his last game and his arrival at LSU. He always had great form and now his work plus the technique he always had has come together.
Whether we agree or disagree about this small thing, we all will see some great basketball again.

King... Sampson is 6'5 and Tone is 6'4. Also if you were to find some of the photos of them all together, you can see Sampson is taller. As far as the shooting, like I said, Blakeney is excellent but he is more scorer then PURE shooter. Very good still at shooting but can do more to put the ball in basket then just spot up. Sampson is so pure as a shooter and the numbers, so far, show it. Also go look at any video of the two and you will see how effortless Sampson gets off the floor and how athletic he is. Again, not saying one is Larry Bird athletically and the other is Jordan. Blakeney is for sure a stud athlete but Brandon is slightly more athletic.
re: If EA Sports NCAA Football '16 existed... Player Ratings

You missed Paris and a few high profile Freshmen. Jackson, Key and Johnson. I see you have Dupre and Toliver at 86 and the two starting DEs at 84/82. I think Paris would have been rated 84-86. If you know the EA rating system, Jackson would probably be ranked at 88 due to his high 4*/5* status and he would have a speed rating of 96 and agility 96. Key would also be higher then the starter due to his recruiting rankings and speed. Maybe 85 or so. And TJ would be an 84-85 also due to him being so highly rated and him having a higher speed & agility rating then Dupre.
Would have certainly been interesting to see though.

I miss that game. I only played this game and played it religiously. If Chubb is a 96, then LF should be as well. I know Chubb's numbers were better but LF is the better back.
But to the guy with the list, that is a great list and pretty spot on with your ratings.

I love this discussion. In my opinion Sampson does have a chance to start, but it would be over Blakeney before it would be over Hornsby. JJ did that a game ago in Australia. As has been said, Hornsby just gives too much on both ends, not to mention leadership to not start. But, Sampson has surprised a lot of people but having a chance to watch this kid up close for a couple years, I am not. He is so athletic and such a pure shooter. The only thing Blakeney has over him is the ranking. Sampson is taller, more athletic and a better shooter. Yes Blakeney is excellent and will be great for LSU. He will also be a 1st round pick next year. Not saying Blakeney is not that good or that Sampson is significantly better. Just saying I don't feel there should be an automatic given that Tone starts just because he comes in as the more heralded player. Brandon is underrated to me, due to playing in Baton Rouge and him being unselfish this year to give more exposure to some of the young players on Madison Prep's team. There were games that Brandon could have had 35 points easily, but all he did was pass the ball and play defense because the other kids were good enough to get the job done and he already had his scholarship offers. He knew they could win by him not being the scorer while letting the other guys shine.
Just go and check the box scores from all the games and check Sampson's shooting from deep. And I believe they are using the international 3 point line which is a foot deeper then college. Maybe I'm wrong, but either way he is shooting about 50%. This has always been a guard game in college, which is why Duke won, UConn has won and why LSU lost to NC State last year in the tournament. In my opinion LSU has the best guards in the country outside of maybe Kentucky. Gray, to me, has lost him time due to what Sampson and how good Patterson is as a shooter and defender. All in all, I think Malone starts until Victor is able to play. Although I have never seen Victor play to give an honest opinion, so I'm just going off of what I have seen people say. But I feel late in games or down the stretch, you will see Simmons as the lone big guy surrounded by 4 shooters(TQ, Hornsby, Tone and Sampson).

I get where you are coming from on the QB. But I think people are excited because of what Harris' potential is if he approaches Jennings in knowledge of the offense. In 2-3 quarters, Harris looked better then Jennings has ever looked in P&G. Now, I know what people will say to that. At Auburn, Harris also looked as horrible as a QB can look. But what I will say, in his defense, Jennings looked no better when he got in. Only difference was Jennings knew the plays.
Harris's potential gives LSU the opportunity to be more multiple, more explosive and more productive. Yes we will have some negative plays, but Jennings had negative plays but had no ability to combat those zero or negatives with greatness. Harris can force teams to not stack the box, which helps the O-line and running backs. He is just better. The only thing that kept Jennings ahead was his knowledge of the playbook and experience. If Harris has buttoned up those things, he is a major upgrade at the QB position.

Ok...whatever is it. The Rose, Fiesta and other New Year's bowls then.

I get you White Tiger, but you do realize LSU went 8-4 last year(prior to the bowl game) with terrible QB play? You do get that right? LSU lost to Miss St, Bama, Arky and Auburn. Miss St will be good but they lost so much. Bama is having more QB issues then we are and have to replace Amari Cooper and some good Defensive players. Auburn replaces a QB and I just don't think Arkansas is to the point where they constantly beat LSU.
So, while I understand some of the pessimism, I think people are overlooking the fact that other teams are going thru transitions and have less talent overall then LSU. So as I said, if LSU can get at least GOOD QB play, 10-2 is not far fetched.

They do still have BCS bowl games. I wasn't referring to the Playoffs sir. The other big bowls that rotate each year are still BCS games, but they now have 2 playoff games!

I agree. I am going with 10-2 also and a BCS game.
If BH is the QB, it will be some ups and downs, but the ups will be more like the Mett, Davey, Jamarcus days. He will have some struggles because he is young and this is the SEC. But we will see the POTENTIAL of this offense under him more so then with AJ.
This season will set LSU up for a Florida, Oklahoma, Miami, Bama type 4-5 year run of dominance. That is if BH is the QB!! With the talent LSU has recruited and will recruit offensively, with good to great QB play, LSU will be almost impossible to stop. The next 4 years with a backfield of Fournette, Williams, Brossette and Guice, you have 2 potential Heisman candidates. A WR corp of 2 former #1 recruits at their position in TJ and MD, studs in Diarse and Quinn to man the intermediate areas of the field, speed guys like Dural and Chark and add the size of Ferguson. The O-line is outstanding and the depth behind them may be better in the long run then those starting ahead of them now. The defense, I feel, will always be great. Will they be as good "statistically" as when Chavis was here? We will wait and see. Even with the great stats, LSU had horrible games under Chavis the last 3-5 years. Georgia, Arky, Ole Miss, Tenn, Notre Dame a few months ago and Miss St. But I feel under Steele, we will be more aggressive and better at getting to the QB. There is no way Steele has been around Saban and not learned anything. Also, I think he had to have learned from whatever mistakes he made years ago. But.......ultimately, he will have more talent then he ever had at Baylor and Clemson to work with and much better position coaches to help him get the players ready he is counting on to play in whatever scheme he deploys. If LSU can bring in the LBs that we have not able to get over the last few years to add to the constant NFL caliber D-linemen and Defensive Backs that come to Baton Rouge, it will be scary.
Sorry for the long post guys, but I am excited for the season that is only 2 weeks away! :geauxtigers: :geauxtigers: :geauxtigers:

I for one can't wait to see this team play. Epps will be huge for this team. A versatile guy off the bench with his height and skill set is hard to find. But for those who have never seen Sampson play, will be extremely happy. He is so smooth and is such a great shooter. Reminds me of Alan Houston but with more springs.

That's what I thought we were doing. But to answer your other question about me playing with or against guys who could run or ran 4.39 or better. Keep in mind not everyone is invited to Indy. But Warrick Dunn was someone I mentioned earlier and he ran 4.28. Now was that in Indy I'm not sure and as I said Kevin Franklin was faster then him. I know if you are from Louisiana and especially Baton Rouge, you know those guys and the times being legit.
