You must be under 30 yrs old if you don't remember the early 90's Curly Hallman years.

This is an ignorant statement made by an ignoramus. Sorry to break it to you.

40 years ago is 1980.
There have been some clunkers in those 4 decades.
2020 is definitely in the top 10 worst of that period.

If it makes the top 10, it would be in the bottom of it. This team beats any of Hallman's teams. One reason this one seems so bad is because our standards are a lot higher now. Not to sugarcoat things, but this team is far from the worst, and I have been going to the games since 1966. And instead of asking about the last 40 years, you can change the 40 to about 63, which is around the time Paul Dietzel's teams started getting good.

1983. They went O-fer in the SEC.

1981 has to be in there.
3-7-1. 2-4-1 in conference and we lost to Tulane.
Stovall brought a very young Mack Brown in to coach QB's and call plays in 82. Immediate turn around.......

FWIW, the 1981 team closed the season with a 48-7 loss the Tulane to finish 3-7-1. They accomplished nothing close to a dominate win, amongst those three (Rice, Oregon St, Kentucky).
They earned a spot in the Bottom 5 for that Tulane loss, alone.

1992 was the worst team LSU has ever fielded
Posted on 12/4/20 at 9:45 am to PhillyFan1994
I’ve been an LSU fan for a long time but I don’t have the kind of memory that a lot of guys on here have for yearly stats and records, I admire and respect the fans that have been with the Tigers through it all, I mean some have literally lived it all over the years and can remember some bad years worth the good. But for the many years I have been a fan and kept up, this years team is one of the worst I remember mainly because of the circumstances around the program.
To me, when you take into consideration that this team is in a era of mass media, recruiting hype, big sponsor money, 5 star rating system, just all that goes into current college football hype, I’m not sure how teams from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, would compare to the current team, I mean, we have had a top 3 to top 5 recruiting class for multiple years now, something that other era teams didn’t have, we’ve had massive media hype and exposure that those teams didn’t have, the teams winning reputation and willingness to pay excessive amounts of money on coaches and facilities should guarantee that we have only the best coaches and players...but this years team just seems to be lifeless, it just doesn’t seem to even attempt to live up to the effort for being as good as you can with the personnel that you have.
We all know we just had the greatest season in college football history with a record number of future NFL players and great coaches and losing an abundance of that personnel definitely caused us to have different expectations than last year. But we still had some returning starters, we still had multiple 4 and 5 star players who even without much college playing time, should have been able to step up, be inspired to defend their national championship and perform, at least at a decent level.
But the play we have seen has been lifeless, it’s seems like players just don’t care, aren’t accountable, have no pride and no drive. In the past we could at least count on one side of the ball putting in 100% effort and outplay their skill set but this years both offense and defense are bad and it’s almost like none of them care if they’re bad or not.
Defenders missing assignments, running along side the guy they’re defending against like they’re afraid to tackle them, too much watching and waiting on someone else to make the play. Just poor play and poor coaching. The offense seems lost too, can’t block for running game, can’t pass protect, poor play design, poor play calling, just everything basic to success on BOTH sides of the ball.
So when you consider talent level, money invested, facilities available, fan support and enthusiasm, every reason to be inspired by being the returning national champion, we should be seeing better than a record of 3-4 after playing the weakest portion of our schedule and we shouldn’t be even having to face the possibility that we could be 3-7 at the end of regular season, so again to me, this is overall, one of the worst teams when all is considered, that I remember us fielding.

Depends how you look at it. Given the way the game has changed and with modern athletes, this team would beat the hell out of most of the bad teams from the last 40 years.
But, relative to today’s athletes and given where we are as a program and just how poorly we’ve played relative to even the most realistic expectations, then yes If say this is the worst team in the last 49 years.

Nah. At the very least this team has talent and has had to deal with the most unprecedented season in history. They’ll always have an asterisk as a result.
This team still sucks, mind you, but they’re objectively better than some of those 90s teams
