Racey McMath gonna ease the pain of losing Chase

Racey McMath would have started for a lot of SEC teams last year. McMath is big and put together, he has the look of a Dwayne Bowe. At 6'3" McMath is as tall or taller than Bowe (LSU listed Bowe at 6'3, his wiki page has him at 6'2). And McMath is not a skinny 6'3, he weighs 224 pounds, none of it fat.
What I did not know is how fast McMath was until I looked it up after he ran away from everyone in the Texas A&M game on a 58 yd td pass from Brennan.
I was surprised to read that McMath ran a 10.86 hundred meters at a track meet for Edna Karr high school. That is flat out moving for a big man.
Mass times acceleration equals force. Its physics. The bigger the mass is and the faster it moves the more force it creates. At 6' 3 moving at top speed, McMath is going to create a lot of force and create a lot of headaches for some SEC cornerbacks, physical and mental headaches.
So yes it sucks to lose Chase. But what a wonderful opportunity for McMath.
And speaking of mass times acceleration. Gilbert is going to be a load too. Assuming Jenkins is the third wideout, you have a 6'5 receiver in Gilbert, a 6'4 receiver in Jenkins and two 6'3 receivers in Marshall and McMath. That's a lot of receiving radius for Brennan to throw to, and Brennan is supposedly an accurate passer.
You can't sugarcoat the loss of the best receiver in college football, but this is not a bare cupboard.
There is no telling how much money Chase might have made McMath by leaving early and letting McMath get more targets. I think McMath improves his NFL stock more than any LSU player this year. The NFL loves measurables which McMath has big time, McMath just has to prove he has game too.
This team could be fun to watch again. Brennan has plenty weapons, we will know soon if he can get them the ball.

You made this post nerdy.

McMath is a specimen. We’ll miss Chase and Jefferson from a footwork perspective though. The ability to get open in small spaces is invaluable. We have other quick guys, but gonna be difficult to replace that skill.

at a school like lsu with a top 100 recruit waiting in the wings of every player lost, losing players shouldn't matter.
I 100% expect an elite WR to replace JC the first snap vs MSU.
This is fricking lsu, not iowa where they rely on experienced seniors for a good season every 4 years.

Losing one receiver when there are plenty of highly rated guys behind him isn't nearly as detrimental as losing some of the guys we did in the draft. Chase was obviously the best of the bunch, but he wasn't the only guy there to begin with. Had it been losing someone like Josh Reed in 2000 when the only receivers left were Reggie Robinson and Jerel Myers, then yeah we' be in trouble in the passing game. I'd be more worried if I was someone like Georgia who's installing a new offense already and just lost their starting QB a few weeks before the season, the backup not yet being cleared for contact who is also a transfer, and a RS freshman behind him.

There is something to be said that McMath and Brennan May have the best chemistry coming into the season since they have actually played on the field at the same time in games.

Jaray Jenkins isn't 6'4
LSU Roster says he is... I didnt think he was either.
FWIW Kole Taylor is listed at 6’7”

Best receiver in college football last year

McMath looked really good lastbyear.
Obviously we’re better with all the WRs on the roster + Chase but it’s not like we’re left with a bunch of scrubs.
Collective experience takes a bigger hit than WR talent.

Thanks man. Now I remember why I seldom post on here anymore. Two minutes into any post someone has to make some a-hole response, even to a harmless post complimentary of an LSU player.

The key is Brennan, if he plays anywhere close to Burrow's level, LSU is going to be alright. LSU has some elite receiver talent. Plus we get Racey for another season after this according to the NCAA if he wants too...

Vs. Ole Miss in 2018 LSU played McMath at TE and made it a point to try to get him the ball. He caught two passes for 42 yards. Then, in keeping with LSU's pre-2019 offensive philosophy, he disappeared for the rest of the season.
He looked like he could have been a bit of a mismatch from the TE spot going forward. Of course, until Joe Brady arrived, LSU wasn't aware you are allowed to create mismatches with your formations and personnel

Paper Tiger: don't let crap posts like that deter you from posting. I enjoyed your post and thought it was a very good analysis of the situation. I am now looking more forward to watching McMath based on your post. Especially to see if a good season improves his draft stock like you mentioned.

I've been a big fan of McMath since his arrival. Sucks for him to have been overshadowed, but this is his year.
One thing that gets overlooked is his downfield blocking. He NEVER stops or gives up on a play. Great team player. I hope he crushes it this season.
Quick observation: on that A&M TD, his subtle head/shoulder fake was all he needed to blow past the safety. Great move while accelerating.

Bro, don’t let some jabronie ruin a good thing for everyone else.. I appreciate the post, it’s post like yours why I come here in the first place and to talk LSU. I never understand why people are like that. Your post was both well written and informative. Thanks!

Not to take anything away from McMath but the A&M defender was Leon O’Neal aka Leon Slo’Neal.
Really pulling for McMath to make strides this year. He’s worked hard and waited for his turn. It would be really ironic if he somehow moved ahead of Chase in the draft. Hoping he has a BIG BIG year.

I'm excited to see him have a bigger piece of the game plan. Last season, we had to feed Clyde, Thad, Chase, Jefferson, etc. This season, Marshall, Gilbert, and Racey should get the bulk of the looks with teams paying most attention to Marshall and Gilbert. That should bode very well for Racey. I think a RB, a 3rd WR, and/or Taylor could also emerge in the passing game as defenses try to overcompensate. You could move Marshall, Racey, or Gilbert into the slot with one of the burner young WRs on the outside to test the top of the defense, too. Jenkins is another big, athletic body. Kirklin, Palmer, Boutte, Moore, Adams.. It's really a loaded WR room without even factoring in the RBs and TEs in the passing game. Any of the 4 RBs in space is a problem - Gilbert and Taylor (Storz and Moffitt) are also matchup nightmares. The possible personnel combinations are endless - Joe Brady would have a field day and I hope E and Linehan do, too.
